DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEEERING
TUTORIAL – 6
SUBJECT: Introduction to Mechanical Engineering (ME131)
COURSE: B. TECH (2023-24)
TOPIC: Numerical on Analysis of Truss
1. Determine the forces in all the members of the truss shown in Fig.1 and indicate the magnitude
and nature of forces on the diagram of the truss. All inclined members are at 60° to horizontal
and length of each member is 2 m.
2. Prove that a tensile force equal to the applied load P is produced in the bar DE of the truss
shown in the Fig.2.

Fig.1 Fig.2
3. Calculate the axial force S in each bar of the simple truss supported and loaded as shown
in the Fig. 3. The triangle ACB is isosceles with 30ᵒ angles at A and B and P = 5 kN.
4. Determine the axial force in each bar of the plane truss loaded as shown in the Fig.4.

Fig. 3 Fig. 4

5. Determine the axial force in each bar of the plane truss loaded as shown in the Fig. 5.
6. Compute the forces in all the members of the cantilever truss as shown in Fig. 6 and tabulate
the magnitude along with their nature.
