Celltrion announced on the 26th that the results of the post-analysis of the global phase 3 clinical trial of Zymfentra
(US brand name), a subcutaneous injection (SC) formulation of the autoimmune disease treatment drug Remsima
(ingredient name: infliximab), were published in an international academic journal.
This study, a post-hoc analysis of the "LIBERTY-CD" clinical trial conducted on patients with moderately to severely
active Crohn's disease, was published in the SCI-level journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology (2024
impact factor 12.2). The journal is rated as having the top 6% academic influence in its field.
The LIBERTY-CD clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of infliximab SC maintenance treatment
compared to placebo, and in this paper, the treatment response was closely analyzed by organ, such as the small
intestine and large intestine, and by detailed site, such as the terminal ileum, left colon, horizontal colon, right colon,
and rectum, through colonoscopy.
Crohn's disease is classified into small intestinal and large intestinal types, depending on the location of the
inflammation. Small intestinal types are more difficult to diagnose than large intestinal types, and complications such
as perforation and stricture are common. According to existing academic research, drug treatment responses can
also vary depending on the site of inflammation.
This post-hoc analysis demonstrated a significant therapeutic effect compared to placebo in patients who received
one-year maintenance treatment with infliximab SC, regardless of the site of inflammation. Consistent responses
were observed across all inflammatory sites, from the small intestine to the terminal ileum, colon, and rectum, a
finding that differentiates it from existing Crohn's disease treatments, which exhibited varying effects across different
sites.
The research team expects that these results will serve as important evidence for future treatment strategies and
drug selection for infliximab SC.
In addition, infliximab SC has been shown to show stable effects regardless of factors such as the patient's disease
course and resistance, and treatment strategies such as monotherapy or combination therapy, proving that it can
exhibit consistent efficacy in various treatment environments.
A Celltrion official said, “The results of this post-analysis suggest that Zimfentra has the potential to overcome the
limitations of existing treatments by showing stable therapeutic effects regardless of the site of inflammation.” He
added, “Based on its proven ease of administration and excellent efficacy, we will do our best to improve the quality
of life of more patients and expand prescriptions.”
