Understanding Electrical Conductivity

This document describes experiments to demonstrate the electrical conductivity of water in different states. It explains that conductivity depends on the atomic structure and the presence of ions. The experiments show that water with salt, acid, or metals becomes a good conductor by allowing the flow of electrons. The intensity of the current depends on the added altering factors.

Introduction ii

Through this experiment, we want to demonstrate how conductivity works in two

states of matter: Liquid and Solid.

We will use different methods and experiments to reach conclusions, they will be added.

provides enough energy to light a bulb.

With this, it will be possible to demonstrate how matter allows the flow of electric current.

Objectives iv

General:

Demonstrate the electrical conductivity of water depending on the state it is in and

with some altering factors (Acid, salt, and metal) and see how these alter the way in which
they transmit energy.

Specific:

Demonstrate how water can become a very good conductor through elements
everyday chemicals
Demonstrate the conductivity of water with acids, salts, and metal.
Make people aware of how dangerous water can be as a conductor of electricity.
To bring the knowledge of chemistry to as many people as possible

Theoretical Framework

Electrical Conductivity

What is electrical conductivity?

Electrical conductivity is the ability of matter to allow the flow of

the electric current through its particles depends on the atomic structure of the
material, temperature and state.

The conductivity mechanisms differ between the three states of matter.

For example, in solids, the atoms as such are not free to move and the
conductivity is due to electrons. In metals, there are nearly-free electrons that
they can move very freely throughout the volume.

The conductivity in liquid media (Solution) is related to the

presence of salts in solution, whose dissociation generates positive and negative ions
capable of transporting electrical energy if the liquid is subjected to an electric field.
These ionic conductors are called electrolytes or electrolytic conductors.

Procedure

We put water in a container.

Salt is added and the mixture becomes homogeneous.
3. We introduce the two poles into the saltwater solution, causing them to go.
slowly bringing the two poles together to see the intensity with which the energy arrives
We take the lemon and put salt on it.
5. We connect the wires to demonstrate that the acid is a conductor along with the salt.
6. We take the sausage, the ham, and the pickle, inserting the poles of the wire.
7. Visualize how the bulb lights up because these have salt.
8. We took the aluminum tube and placed the wires, demonstrating that the metal
it is a conductor material of electricity

Conclusions

Through various experiments, we managed to demonstrate how conductivity

electric reacts to chemical compounds and becomes a very good conductor
electric

These experiments allow us to understand how electricity works and how

is transmitted

We could observe and notice how easily water becomes a super

conductor
