1. Presentation
Characterization of the subject:
This subject contributes to the profile of the Industrial Engineer the ability to
manage, design and improve the operation of warehouses and storage areas
within the supply chain; to define the necessary elements for the
appropriate management and control of inventories in their storage place.
Storage spaces are of vital importance for obtaining a
competitive advantage, redefine strategies, growth in markets and optimize
the planning of product distribution.
Proper warehouse management positively impacts profitability.
the operations of an organization by reducing costs and helping to maintain its
budget control, and also by preserving the materials in good condition
adequate, the current assets are minimized accountingly and the turnover is improved
of the inventories positively impacting the profit margin of the
organization.
Didactic intention:
The syllabus is organized into four units, grouping the contents.
conceptual regarding the management and design of warehouses in the first two
units; a third unit is included that is intended for the application of techniques
of storage control, and in the last unit, the costs are studied
related to warehouse operations.
In the first and second units, it is about placing the student in the concept of
safeguarding and design of warehouses, introducing it to the aspects that have given
guidelines for the development of these centers: benefits, management, provisions of
property in the warehouse, among others.
In the third unit, it is about positioning the student in the techniques that allow them to
make decisions regarding the operation of the warehouse, and understand that these
significantly impact the efficient operation of the chain of
supplies.
The fourth unit introduces the student to the topic of costs.
storage, establishing the interaction that they have with costs
logistics comprehensively.
The important thing is to work with case studies, whether from historical examples,
as current, in cases of storage of perishable and non-perishable products
perishables. And the management of information technologies applied to management of
storage.
