Watching the Indonesian MotoGP

The Indonesian MotoGP became the most popular sporting event held in the country since the
pandemic halted all normal activities. Its inaugural event attracted more than 60,000 spectators
from across the archipelago, travelling to the new 4.3 kilometre track built on the island of
Lombok It was a test run of the new Mandalika International Street Circuit which is hoped will
help build the island as a destination point and direct more tourism funds back into the
economy.

I was one of those thousands of tourists visiting Lombok to watch the MotoGP: only fully
vaccinated spectators were allowed to enter the circuit and wearing mask was mandatory. From
personal experience I can say that the restaurants were full and gift shops ran out of some
product line, while local news reported that airlines had added extra flights and all
accommodation was fully booked.

With this first big event now completed, there is an opportunity for reflection and consideration
of what went well and what needs to be addressed before the next. While the new venue
facilities were ready and the racing events and ceremonies went well, as to be expected the
event showed where there is room for improvement, which include its logistical aspect and the
traffic it caused, This is critical as the national government seeks to secure a 10-year contract to
host future MotoGp events in Lombok, and there is even some talk of hosting an Fi event.

While the facilities were well set out, it was when people started arriving that logistical
challenges became apparent. Firstly, the ticket gates were crowded and chaotic, making i
impossible to implement social distancing. The shuttle buses bringing the visitors to the venue
after receiving their tickets were also too small which made it difficult to carry a lot of
passengers, an airport style bus might be more suitable in this situation.

Secondly, the traffic and transportation set-up failed those who had made the effort to watch he
race. It took me three and a half hours to return to my accommodation which was located nly 21
kilometres from the circuit. It was even worse for many others who spent more than seven ours
trying to return to their accommodation, with some of them collapsing from having to walk the
bus terminal for two kilometres at night as the shuttle buses were stuck in traffic

My belief is that officials will look at these shortcomings and make improvements for next r as
the Mandalika circuit has the potential to improve Lombok's economy sustainably into future.

Watching the Olympics in Person

On August 4th 2012 l arrived at the Olympic Stadium in London for the first time. It was a
moment I'd looked forward to for months after I'd been able to secure a ticket. Walking into the
stadium was electrifying. I can still picture the moment the track peeked into view as I walked up
the stadium steps. It was all but empty when we arrived, but the hustle of the media and the
official was enough for me. More than that, the seat I'd managed to get hold of was in the fourth

was, 20 years after I'd first been mesmerized by the beautiful sport of athletics and inspired by

in person. I think it's important to remember it's about a lot more than what happens on the track
or in the pool, or on the court. It's about being part of something that reaches over continent
between generations and around complete strangers.

Shortly after we'd arrived at the stadium, the seat next to me had been taken by an elder ady
who was with her granddaughter. It was great to see a real mix of fans in the stadium and , I
asked her if she was excited about the night ahead. "Oh yes," she said, and told me she hopes
or granddaughter would enjoy the experience too. I waved a friendly hello at her granddaughter
id you manage to get tickets in the original ballot?" I asked, interested to know if they'd battle

"Well, not exactly," said the granddaughter, "We were given some tickets." She looked almog

were" said the grandmother interrupting my thought, "those of us who competed in the 194 es

How to Get Tickets to Wimbledon

When I knew I was going to the UK during Wimbledon to present, I started trying to figure o how
to get tickets, What I quickly learned that I did not know is that tickets are not at all easy get. My
first step which seemed easy was to sign up for the lottery. I found out later that many people
sign up for the lottery but very few get tickets.

My second step was to do further research on how people get tickets. I found some gre articles
online and talked to people. But found out that if I wanted tickets, I'd have to get ina queue the
morning I wanted to go. Some people said this was easy, while others said it was no I think it
really depended on what point in the tournament we wanted tickets-early rounds n so difficult,
later rounds more difficult.

The third option to get tickets was Ticketmaster but I couldn't quite figure out when I needed to
get on Ticketmaster to get them. As I found out, I had to get on the website at 9:00 am. (n later)
the morning before the day I wanted to go to quickly snatch up tickets that were available

The Power of Sport: A Reflection on the Paralympic Games

After the 2018 Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang I came back home and began to
reflee on the privilege and experience I had supporting the athletes from my country at my first
Paralymp me about it. The best way I can describe it is magical. Yes, that may sound cheesy
and sentiment because it is, but I can't think of another word to describe how I found it.

The first day I moved into the village. I was in awe with everything that I saw, even thoug it's
honestly just a bunch of buildings. Upon entering the first thing you see are numerous flag
poles, each one fiving a different flag of a country who is participating in the Games. Something
about that view impressed me every time I walked by it. My colleagues often laughed because
even though the view never changed, I continued to stop to take photos of it throughout the
duration of the Games. There was something comforting to see so many country's flags filh
beside each other every day during the Games, especially on the more challenging days.

Even the meal hall in the village fascinated me, and although I love food, I am actualh referring
to the community of people who ate there. Talk about a fun place to people watch Every table
had a different delegation and often tables had a mixture of athletes from different countries who
either knew each other from competition, or were choosing to get to know someone new. How
many times do you sit down to eat and have people from Kazakhstan at the table in front of you,
Poland at the table beside you, Brazil at the table behind you, and a few Kiwis who sit down to
join you? Pretty cool if you ask me.

And don't even get me started on the competitions themselves. Although I loved watching the
athletes race on the track, down the hill or on the ice, I often found myself watching something
else. Their families and friends. Have you ever watched someone's mother see their son or
daughter win a gold medal? Those are the kind of moments that are really special-to have
someone fly across the world to witness someone they love accomplish one of their biggest
dreams. To have family and friends watch someone they care about get the results they had
hoped and worked years and years to achieve. That is magic.

Then there's the medal ceremonies at the end of each day. I've never seen smiles as big as I
saw on athletes as the announcer pronounced them "Paralympic Champion," and raised thei
country's flag while singing their national anthem. I could have watched those presentations fo
hours. It was so
