25/11/2024: Computers are being used more and more in education and so

there will soon be no role for the teacher in education. To what extent do you
agree or disagree?

In today’s world, improvements in technology have greatly influenced the


academy. The increasing use of computers has led to the question whether
they are the best substitution for teachers in this realm. In my opinion, I
strongly disagree with the statement due to some negative impacts of
computers and the importance of teachers in this realm.

To begin with, there are two main detrimental effects that computers can
exert on students. The first one relates to the fact that the young can suffer
from distraction when learning by computers. Now that there are many
stimulating contents and videos available on the Internet, many youngsters
find themselves surfing the Internet in place of focusing on their study.
Moreover, innovations in technology have made many students rely on them,
refusing to think outside the box and find their own solutions. Since there is a
wide range of knowledge available on the Internet, and there are many
applications such as ChatGPT which can create presentations and essays, the
students can free themselves from breaking the back of tasks that they find
boring. This issue can overally lead to a lack of critical thinking, along with
adverse effects in academic performance.

In contrast, teachers can be of great values in education. Firstly, teachers are


those who are able to introduce the young with effective and appropriate
learning strategies in a world when students are overwhelmed by abundant
learning methods. Furthermore, as the speed at which research and
discovery are made is escalating, it is a dedicated teacher who is willing to
explore up-to-date methods and cope with the complexity of today’s learning
environment. Secondly, tutors play an important role in providing
mentorship. There is a direct connection between a knowledgeable and
caring educator and a secure and motivated learner. Thanks to teachers,
many children have been able to recognize their social, mental and
intellectual needs.

In conclusion, in spite of the growing number in computer use in modern


education, they are full of downsides, and teachers play an irreplaceable
role, namely providing mentorship and introducing effective learning
methods.
