Chapter 1 — The Day When It Started
My story begins in the most ordinary way possible. That day was like any
other — not too hot, not too cold. Just the right kind of weather to make
you feel at ease. The sky was clear, the breeze had a soft chill to it, and
everything around felt... calm. But still, there was something different. A
strange kind of chill ran through me — not from the weather, but from a
feeling. A feeling that something was about to happen… something I
couldn’t yet understand.
And then, I heard it.
A voice I was used to hearing every morning.
“Arey oye Chiku! Kahaan kho gaya?”
"Hey Chiku! Where are you lost?"
Yup. That’s what my best friend called me — Chiku.
I turned around, still lost in my thoughts. That voice brought me back to
the present.
I’m not someone who stands out. I’m not a topper, not a gamer, not a
social butterfly. Just slightly above average in studies, and way too
awkward in real life. An introvert, you could say — the kind who’s better at
answering quiz questions than starting conversations.
I had never been great at making new friends, or talking to girls. And that
included her — my crush, someone I had admired from afar but never
dared to speak with. Ever.
So when my best friend told me during lunch break that she was sitting in
the canteen alone, my heart skipped a beat. I had never spoken to her.
Not even once. Not because she was intimidating, but because I was
scared. Scared of what people would say if they saw me talking to her.
“Agar kisi ne dekh liya toh vo mujhe galat samjhega.”
"What if someone saw us and misunderstood me?"
I didn't want that. I had always stayed in my shell.
And so, as always, I said nothing.
The lunch break ended just like that — with me doing nothing.
Back in class, my best friend couldn’t hold it in anymore.
He gave me an earful.
“Bhai, tu pagal hai kya? Golden chance tha!”
"Bro, are you crazy? That was a golden chance!"
But I stayed silent. I didn’t have any excuses, but I also didn’t feel sad.
Strangely, something inside me felt… light.
As if something was about to change.
And just when I was lost in that very thought,
she walked past my bench and tossed a small folded paper onto it.
I was about to throw it away, thinking it was just some silly note, but my
friend stopped me.
“Pagal hai kya? Dekh toh sahi!”
"Are you stupid? At least check it out!"
He opened it and read it. And then, looked at me like I was the biggest
idiot in the universe.
“Bhaiiiii! Usne tujhe school ke baad school ke peeche bulaya hai!”
"Broooo! She called you behind the school after classes!"
My heart stopped for a second.
And at that very moment…
I felt like the happiest person in the world.
From that point on, I couldn’t think of anything else.
My eyes were on the clock. My mind — already imagining the
conversation I might have with her.
Every tick felt like torture.
One second felt like an hour.
But finally… classes ended.
I walked slowly toward the spot behind the school.
The cool evening breeze hit my face.
My heart was racing so fast it almost drowned out every other sound.
Date: 12th February
Time: 6:45 PM
I didn’t know what was going to happen.
But I knew — this was just the beginning.
Chapter 2: someone I didn’t know
The school bell rang, echoing across the corridors, finally marking the end
of the day. But for me, it felt like the beginning of something else...
something I wasn’t ready for.
My heart was pounding. I had been counting every second for this
moment — the one note, the one folded paper that had turned my whole
world upside down. "School ke baad, school ke peeche milna..."
"Meet me behind the school after classes..."
Her words were stuck in my mind like a soft whisper that refused to fade.
I walked, almost ran, to the back of the school building. Every step felt
heavier than the last. Butterflies in my stomach were turning into a storm.
But then… I saw them.
She was already there — not alone. Sitting beside her was someone else.
The guy everyone in class knew. Tall, confident, and frankly, the most
attractive guy around. The kind who had already dated three girls and
probably forgot their names by now. And yet, there he was... beside her.
My feet froze.
What… is going on?
I moved a little closer… trying to hide behind the corner of the wall. I
wanted to know the truth. I wanted to hear their conversation. But my
body was resisting. My legs, instead of moving forward, were slowly
backing away. My tears had started forming before I even realized it. It
felt like something had broken inside me… something I didn’t even know
was so fragile.
And then I heard her say something that shattered me completely.
“Main tujhe bulana chahti thi… lekin galti se us champu ko vo note de
diya.”
"I wanted to call you… but by mistake, I gave that note to that
nerd."
My heart sank. My throat dried up. My mind went blank.
She hadn’t meant to call me. It was never for me.
It was never about me.
“Ab darr lag raha hai… vo aa na jaaye. Kahin misunderstanding ho jaaye
toh?”
"Now I’m scared… what if he comes? What if there’s a
misunderstanding?"
I couldn’t listen anymore.
I turned back. My vision was blurry. Not because of the sun, but because
of the tears in my eyes.
Main sirf ek champu hoon…
"I’m just a loser..."
That line kept echoing inside my head again and again.
Shaayad main kisi ke pyaar ke layak hi nahi hoon...
"Maybe I’m not worthy of anyone’s love..."
I wanted to scream. I wanted to ask why.
Why me?
Why give me hope… only to crush it?
Mere kadam wapas jaa rahe the…
"My feet were turning back..."
Mere aansu rukne ka naam nahi le rahe the…
"My tears refused to stop..."
Mere dimaag mein sirf ek hi baat ghoom rahi thi…
"Only one thought kept spinning in my mind..."
Shaayad main kisi ke pyaar ke layak nahi hoon...
"Maybe I’m just not worthy of love..."
Aur isliye… main bina kuch bole waha se chala gaya.
"And that’s why… I walked away without saying a word."
I didn’t even realize how far I had walked. It was just past the school
gate, when suddenly…
Peeche se ek awaaz aayi —
"A voice called out from behind —"
“Hey… rukna zara!”
"Hey… wait up!"
I stopped. My heart skipped a beat.
I didn’t recognize the voice immediately. It wasn’t her. But it was soft…
kind… and unfamiliar.
Aur mujhe nahi pata tha… us awaaz ke baad meri zindagi badal jaayegi.
"And I didn’t know… that after hearing that voice, my life would
never be the same again."
I turned around slowly.
And at that moment, I had no idea that this one turn — this one second —
was about to change my life forever.
Chapter 3 – The One Who Made My Life Colorful
As soon as I turned around, I saw a familiar face.
A girl… someone I had known for the past 2-3 years.
But never… not even once, had I spoken to her.
Maybe because I was just that introverted.
And today, out of nowhere, she had called out to me.
I tried to wipe my tears, but the marks were still there.
She looked at me and asked gently,
“Tum hamari class se hi ho na?”
"You're from our class, right?"
I couldn’t speak. My voice… it just wouldn’t come out.
Not because I didn’t want to talk, but because I couldn’t.
Still, I somehow managed to nod and whisper a weak “Yes.”
Then she looked at me and asked,
“Tum ro rahe the, hai na?”
"You were crying… weren't you?"
I didn’t reply.
She didn’t press further.
She simply said,
“Chalo… saath ghar chalte hain.”
"Come on… let’s walk home together."
I didn’t say anything. But my legs… they started walking on their own.
As if my heart had taken over my mind, guiding me to follow her.
There was something strangely peaceful about walking beside her.
And then she asked,
“Kitne dost hain tumhare school mein?”
"How many friends do you have in school?"
In a very faint voice, I replied,
“Ek…”
"Just one…"
She looked at me with a slightly tilted head, her expression unreadable.
And then, with a teasing grin, she said,
“Ahem… tum ladke ho… tum sirf ek ladke se hi baat karte ho… kahin
tum dono… you know…”
I stared at her, confused.
She continued,
“Kya tum dono gay ho? Usne aaj tumhe chhod diya, isliye tum itne
dukhi ho?”
"Are you two gay? And he broke up with you today, that’s why you’re so
heartbroken?"
I was stunned.
I almost forgot I had been crying.
And suddenly, I blurted out loudly,
“Arey yaar! Aisa kuch nahi hai! Woh sirf mera dost hai! Main aisa
ladka nahi hoon!”
"Hey! It's nothing like that! He's just my friend! I'm not that kind of guy!"
She burst into laughter.
“Chill… I was just kidding, lol. But seriously, why don’t you make
more friends?”
I stayed quiet.
She looked at me again and said,
“Tumhe dekh ke toh lagta hai… tum sach mein gay ho…”
"Honestly, you really seem gay…"
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.”
I was losing my mind. I didn’t know whether to cry again or laugh this
time.
I took a breath and finally replied,
“Main ek introvert hoon… kaun karega mujhse dosti? Na main games
mein achha, na padhai mein topper, na smart lagta hoon…”
"I’m an introvert… who’d want to be friends with me? I’m not good at
games, not a topper, not even good-looking..."
She paused. Looked at me softly and said,
“Kabhi apne dost se puchha hai… usne tumse dosti kyun ki?”
I replied,
“Nahi… kyunki usne kabhi puchhne ka mauka hi nahi diya…”
She smiled again, this time without teasing.
“Puchhna bhi mat… kyunki dosti karne ke liye kisi ka smart,
handsome, ya topper hona zaroori nahi hota…
Sirf dil achha hona chahiye…”
"Don’t even ask… because to be someone's friend, you don’t have to be
smart, handsome, or a topper…
You just need a good heart."
She laughed softly,
“Aur baaki sab maine mazak mein bola tha… sorry haan… gussa mat
hona.”
And just like that…
“Lo, mazak karte karte tera ghar aa gaya. Main chalti hoon… fir
milenge.”
"Anyway… while joking around, we’ve reached your place. I’m heading
home. See you again."
I wanted to ask her name.
But I didn’t have the courage.
And I didn’t even know that she lived just a few houses away from mine.
Maybe because… I never really stepped out
And then…
Somehow, I reached home.
I don’t even remember the walk from the gate to my room.
I changed my clothes.
I wasn’t in the mood to eat.
So I opened my homework notebook…
…only to stare blankly at the pages.
And then — the tears came again.
Slow, silent, and uninvited.
Kuch samajh hi nahi aa raha tha.
Nothing felt real.
Nothing made sense.
Only her words were echoing in my mind…
Her strange jokes, her comforting silence, and that warm voice saying,
"Sirf dil achha hona chahiye..."
And the truth is…
This was the most colorful day of my life.
And the darkest one too.
But somewhere in that darkness…
There was a strange light.
A voice… that wasn’t pulling me back…
…But gently pushing me forward.
Ek nayi duniya ki taraf…
Toward something unknown.
Something beautiful.
Maybe… toward a version of myself I never thought existed.
Chapter 4 – What Is a Bucket List?
I woke up that morning not knowing what the day had planned for me…
But something about it felt different.
"Aaj ka din har din se zyada colorful lag raha tha."
"Today felt more colorful than any other day."
I freshened up, ate my breakfast quietly, and got ready for school.
Bag on my shoulders, shoes tightened, I stepped out.
As I walked toward school, my usual shortcut took me right past her
house.
And for the first time… mere kadam khud ba khud ruk gaye.
"My steps paused on their own."
I don’t know why, but a part of me wanted to just stand there for a
moment.
But then I thought,
“Agar uske parents ne dekh liya toh? Galat samjhenge…”
"What if her parents see me? They'll misunderstand…"
So I started walking again.
But after a few steps, I heard a voice from behind.
"Hey!"
I turned around, and it was her.
A familiar face I had known for 2–3 years…
but never spoken to, all because of my quiet nature.
She smiled at me and said teasingly,
“Tum mera hi intezaar kar rahe the na?”
"You were waiting just for me, right?"
I wiped off the leftover tear marks and softly said,
"Nahi... mera ghar thoda aage hai, main toh roz yahin se jaata
hoon."
"No… my house is a little ahead, I walk this route every day."
She grinned, her tone playful,
"Wow, kal hum mile… aaj fir mil gaye…
Usse pehle toh kabhi nahi mile the!"
"Wow, we met yesterday… and again today. Before that, we never did!"
She was cheerful — bright, like sunshine after a storm.
I was about to ask her name when suddenly she said,
"Chalo, school chalte hain… der ho jaayegi."
"Let’s go, we’ll be late for school."
I nodded silently, and we started walking together.
On the way, she asked just one thing:
"Tumhari bucket list mein kya-kya hai?"
"What’s on your bucket list?"
I paused, confused.
"Bucket list?"
I had never heard that word properly before.
She chuckled,
"Aapki woh aakhri wishes jo aap zindagi mein pura karna chahte
ho...
Mujhe bhi bas itna hi pata hai, lol."
"Those final wishes you want to complete in life... that’s all I know too,
lol."
Then she added quickly,
“Par suno, wish kisi ko batani nahi chahiye… warna vo puri nahi hoti.
Aap bhi mat batana… accha rahega.”
"But listen, you shouldn’t tell anyone your wish… or it won’t come true.
You too, don’t tell… better that way."
And I smiled.
But inside… something stirred.
"Meri bucket list?"
"My bucket list?"
I had never really thought about that.
What would I even write in it?
Maybe…
“To be loved just as I am.”
or
"Ek baar kisi ke liye important feel karna."
"To feel important for someone, even once."
But then I brushed it off with a soft laugh.
"Agar kisi ko pata chal gaya toh?"
"What if someone finds out?"
"Chhoro… kabhi kisi ko nahi pata chalega."
"Forget it… no one will ever know."
In that quiet moment,
I mentally wrote something on my invisible bucket list.
And then suddenly—
"Kahaan kho gaye?!"
"Where did you get lost?!"
Her voice brought me back.
"School aa gaya hai, bell baj gayi hai! Assembly ka time hai. Jaldi
chalo!"
"We’ve reached school, the bell rang! It’s assembly time. Hurry!"
She lightly grabbed my wrist and started running.
And I? I followed her. Without thinking.
And just like that…
“Woh din shuru hua… meri zindagi ka sabse accha din.”
"That day began… the best day of my “
Chapter 5 – Will She Accept Me?
As soon as we entered the school, she let go of my
hand… and then she just disappeared. I looked around,
confused. “Kahan gayi vo?” (Where did she go?)
A moment later, my friend came running and said,
"Bhai tu kya kar raha hai? Chal, assembly start hone
wali hai!"
(“Bro, what are you doing? Come on, assembly’s about
to start!”)
I walked with him, but honestly, my mind was
somewhere else—still wondering where she went. I
wanted to know everything about her: her name, her
likes, her world. I thought maybe today… maybe today
I’ll ask her name. And maybe… tell her how I feel.
But then a thought hit me—
"Yeh love toh nahi ho sakta, right?" (This can’t be love,
right?)
"Par kya vo mujhe accept karegi?" (But will she accept
me?)
It’s too soon. We just met yesterday, and I’m already
thinking of confessing my feelings? That would be
wrong.
And anyway, this isn’t love… right? Love doesn’t just
happen like that.
And what if I told her and she stopped being my friend
too?
So I decided, today I’ll only ask her name… and try to be
her friend.
We entered the class. I sat on my bench. She was sitting
ahead with her friends. But my mind was still replaying
everything from yesterday. I imagined her smile… and I
smiled too.
Big mistake.
I didn’t even notice that the teacher had entered and
was standing right next to me.
“Ahem ahem… kis angel ke baare mein soch rahe ho?”
(“Ahem ahem… what angel are you thinking about?”)
I blurted out, “Yrr vo bahut achhi hai… tujhe kaise
bataun…”
(“She’s really sweet, man… how do I even explain…”)
And then I opened my eyes—
Sir was literally in front of my face.
He shouted,
“Class se bahar niklo! Sapne dekhna hai toh ghar pe
dekho. Yaha tumhari zarurat nahi hai!”
(“Get out of the class! If you want to dream, do it at
home. We don’t need you here!”)
I walked out.
But honestly?
That wasn’t punishment…
That was REWARD—
Because she was sitting right in front of me, and I could
just… look at her.
Fifteen minutes. First time ever.
Period ended. Sir walked out and told me,
“Beta, tum padhai mein acche ho. In sab cheezon se
door raho.”
(“Son, you’re good at studies. Stay away from
distractions like this.”)
I said, “Yes sir,”
…but my mind was still stuck on her.
Next period started. English. But honestly, I didn’t care.
All I cared about was lunch break—
Because today, I had to know her name.
I was so stressed, my stomach felt weird. Probably
anxiety.
One whole hour left till lunch.
And my friend kept poking me,
“Kal aisa kya hua? Bhai, bata na!”
(“What happened yesterday? Come on, tell me!”)
I didn’t want to tell him… he’d just get emotional.
But he didn’t stop asking, so I gave in.
We started talking… and that helped. Time passed faster.
Suddenly—it was lunch break.
My friend went to wash his hands.
I? I ran to the canteen like I was about to miss a train.
Even one second felt like too much.
And then—
Sir stopped me.
Because I was literally sprinting across campus like a
donkey.
He scolded me.
But I was freaking out inside—
What if she leaves before I get there?
After his mini lecture, I rushed to the canteen.
Students were heading back to their classes.
And she was just closing her lunch box, ready to leave.
This was my chance.
I stepped forward.
But suddenly—
“AYEEE!”
Someone yelled behind me, sounding like a full-on
demon.
I didn’t even turn. I was too scared.
Then—
A hand touched my shoulder.
It was my best friend.
His face looked like I’d betrayed him or something.
He shouted,
“LADKI ke liye bhai ko ignore kar diya?”
(“You ignored your bro for a girl?!”)
I was like, “Bhai, abhi nahi.”
I needed to talk to her.
So I walked past him… straight to her.
She looked confused but smiled.
And then she said—
“Main kal tumhara naam nahi puch paayi… aaj btaoge
mujhe?”
(“I couldn’t ask your name yesterday… will you tell me
today?”)
Before I could say anything,
my friend yelled from behind again,
“YEH LADKI KE LIYE BHAI KO CHOD DIYA!”
(“HE LEFT ME FOR A GIRL!”)
The embarrassment? Unmatched.
I ignored him and kept talking to her.
She looked at him,
Then looked at me and asked,
“Yeh tumse pyaar karta hai kya?”
(“Does he love you or something?”)
I laughed.
“Nahiii, yeh pagal hai.” (Nooo, he’s just crazy.)
Then—lunch break ended.
I didn’t even get to ask her name.
But as she was leaving, she turned and said—
“Aaj bhi sath challenge, okay?”
(“We’ll walk together today too, okay?”)
My heart melted.
I was so happy.
And maybe—
Just maybe—
This was the start of a new crush.
Not love, not yet.
Because love means different things to different people.
There are 8 billion people in the world… maybe even
more.
And for each of them, love means something unique.
For me?
Right now…
This is just a crush.
But this time—
I hope it doesn’t end like the last one.
She left early for class.
I had to drag my overdramatic friend back with me.
And I kept thinking—
“Yeh banda itna overactive kyun hai, yaar…”
(“Why is this guy so overdramatic, man…”)
