Tank Dismantling Safety Procedures
Tank Dismantling Safety Procedures
OBJECTIVE
Prevent risks in the assembly and disassembly operations of tanks, their
metal structures and platforms .
SCOPE
Applicable to all MBM projects and services
PROCEDURE
Preliminaryplanning.
Security is responsible for disseminating this standard within the works and
services where this type of tasks are executed. The supervision is responsible for the
correct implementation of this. Meetings will need to be held to plan the
risk prevention, before starting the assembly and disassembly tasks.
The supervision of the work and/or services, as well as the security personnel, must be present.
assigned to the work and/or service and all that person who, due to their experience in
assembly and disassembly tasks can contribute to risk prevention.
The topics that need to be analyzed during the planning meetings must
include, at least, the following:
Storage areas.
Tools.
Sequence that the task will follow
Crane capacities (support surface requirements)
Access (ladders, staircases, temporary platforms)
Adjusted opening.
Release of provisional braces.
Seat belts, harnesses.
Signaling.
Firefighting equipment
Verification and compliance.
Training and talks to be given to the involved staff.
Permanent personal protective equipment and other additional or special equipment
WorkAreaInspection
Before starting the work, the supervision and the Safety Engineer
They will inspect the site to determine the existing hazards and safeguards.
Theywil beinstalled.
Workers will have clear and secure access to the work area, through
paths, stairs and elevators.
The high voltage lines located nearby will be identified.
and de-energize them with the respective permission.
All pressurized pipes for conducting air, nitrogen, argon, or any other.
compressed gas or for pressurized liquids, will be located, marked and
secured, prior to the start of work and the tasks of disassembly and/or
assembly.
All extension cables, welding guides, compressed air lines, etc.
they will be raised and fixed on lateral surfaces, of paths, stairs and
hallways, to prevent tripping hazards. Where it is not possible or practical
to do it, the route will be changed or it will be covered in another way, by placing signs
to protect both people and facilities.
Where temporary floors, safety nets, perimeter guards are required,
Ladders and scaffolding, prior planning for adaptation and necessity will be done.
accordingtoeachcase.
There must be at least one extinguisher in the areas where activities are carried out.
open flame operations.
Necessary precautions will be taken to capture sparks and generated slag.
due to welding. Personnel and equipment must be adequately protected.
they could be found or transit through lower levels.
To store or transport rivets, bolts, and pins, the following will be used
suitable containers to avoid spilling them on the floors while working
in height.
Workers assigned to work at height will wear a harness with lifelines.
subject to a lifeline or other anchor to a highly reliable fixed point.
Dismantlingofthetank.
Remove the valves, lines, and fittings that are inoperable for facilities.
of mobilization and displacement.
Roof work
Install a support of 1.80 m in height with a 5" diameter tube, welded to
roof on one side for easy maneuverability.
Build a square with a 4" diameter Sch 40 tube of 1.20 m in length, to
which will be welded a 4” diameter arm with a length of 1m, which
it will have an ear with a 3/8" plate, from where it will later be hung to
maneuver to remove segments of sheets.
Removalofstructures-roofbeams.
Sheet cutting by segments, with respective holes to install shackles or
strobe lights
With the support of the crane, one or two plates will be lowered according to the capacity of the boom.
and then locate the stacking area
It will continue sequentially until all the elements of the ceiling are finished.
Then, for the removal of the beams and columns, conventional scaffolding will be installed or
tubulars up to the operational height, properly braced inside the tank.
Dismantling of spokes begins with the support of a crane and to remove until only three spokes are left.
Tighten the column in three directions, at 120° from each other to to have a
balance, and to finish removing all the rays.
With the column independent, it will slide at its bottom or support towards a
end of the cylinder, where a window was prepared for entry of
facilities, even horizontal position and with the support of the crane it is removed to the place
stacked.
Removalofplatesonebyonefromthecylinderofthetank.
With the ease of scaffolding, with at least two columns up to the height of
last ring properly braced, the cutting of each sheet proceeds to
headboards and frames. With 12" remaining for the final cut, it is secured on both sides.
yoke installed to the crane's arm, then proceed to remove the plate,
without having first fixed some sails to said plate for better movement
to the stacking area
The sheet removal sequence will continue until the cylinder is finished.
The cuts will be made using the oxyacetylene process.
Removalofbottomtanksheets.
The cutting of the bottom plates will be done with the removal of weld, taking care to
maintain the dimensions of the sheets
With the support of the crane, each plate secured to the yoke is removed one by one.
taking to the stacking place.
ElevationofpeopleusingRafts.
Before using balms, it will be necessary to research alternative methods.
This system should only be used when other means of access to the
work is extremely dangerous or when it is not possible to access it
due to the structural design or the conditions of the work.
The lift must be manufactured for the specific purpose of lifting personnel.
by means of a crane.
The counter should have a working surface of at least 1.40 m2, it should have the
sufficient space to allow working while standing and its structure must be welded
with a safety factor of five.
It must have a railing 1m high to protect the perimeter of the.
personal in the ball. It must be of solid construction, with a swinging door with
opening only inward and equipped with a lock.
The workers' strike must be suspended at the start of any,
dangerous weather conditions or other imminent danger.
The work platform must be raised slightly and inspected to ensure.
that it is firm and properly balanced before allowing the workers
occupy the swamp.
The workers being promoted must be permanently at the
view and in communication with the crane operator or the signaler. If at any
At the moment the operator cannot see the hand signals or hear the signals from.
Radio, it must stop all operations until it receives signals.
Workers inside the basin must wear a safety belt.
full harness with life line properly secured.
