Full Wave Rectifier Experiment Guide

The document outlines an experiment on full wave rectifiers, specifically focusing on sketching output waveforms for a center tapped or bridge rectifier under variable resistive loads. It includes a list of required apparatus, theoretical background on rectifiers, a detailed procedure for conducting the experiment, and sections for observations, results, and discussions on related concepts. Key parameters such as ripple factor, applications of rectifiers, and the role of transformers are also addressed.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:

Fig.1 Center tapped Full wave rectifier

EXP NO:

FULL WAVE RECTIFIERS

AIM:

To sketch the output wave forms of either center tapped rectifier (or) Bridge rectifier for
variable resistive load.
APPARATUS:
[Link] Equipment Qty Range
1. Transformer 1 15-0-15V

2. Diode 2 IN4007

3. Decade Resistance Box 1

4. DSO 1 50MHz

5. Bread Board 1

6. Single Stand Wires Adequate

THEORY:
Any electrical device, which offers a low resistance to current in one direction but the high
resistance to the current in the opposite direction, is called rectifier. They can convert a sinusoidal
input waveform into a Uni-directional waveform.
PROCEDURE:
1. Connect the circuit diagram as shown in figure.1
2. Note down the secondary transformer voltage value by observing the waveform in the DSO.
3. First note down the No-load voltage Vdc and Vac corresponding to Idc=0.
4. Then increase the load current insteps of 5mA up to a maximum of 50 mA. At each value of
Idc note down the corresponding value Vdc, Vrms from the output waveforms.
5. Plot the output voltage waveforms of the full- wave rectifier for any two load currents and
evaluate the performance parameters as given in the table.
OBSERVATIONS:
%Regulation
[Link] RL (Ohms) Vdc (volts) Vrms (volts)
R ={(Vnl-Vl)/Vl} x100

MODEL GRAPHS:

Without filter
RESULTS:

DISCUSSIONS:
1. Define ripple factor?
2. List the applications of rectifier?
3. Mention the role of transformer in the rectifier circuit?
4. Define Peak inverse voltage?
