Understanding Scale in Architecture

The document discusses the concept of scale in architectural drawing, emphasizing its importance for representing large or small objects accurately. It highlights the historical significance of Greek architecture in establishing balance, scale, and proportion, and explains the use of scale rulers for precise measurements. Additionally, it differentiates between scale and proportion, providing examples and resources for further understanding.

Architecture is the art of building something intending it to be
aesthetically pleasing. Ancient Greece was one of the
first civilizations to incorporate balance, scale and
proportion to its architecture. These three defining aspects
they establish the character of the majority of the buildings constructed
in the Greek style.
History
Other ancient civilizations that were also drawn to the
architecture, like Persian or Egyptian, did not build with such presence
the balance, the scale and the proportion as the Greeks had them. These
societies raised grand structures that made everything else seem tiny
the men, both in proportion and in scale. The Greeks were the
first to construct symmetrical buildings that did not overshadow the size
of humans.
Identification
Although Greek architecture has different subdivisions, the structure
The basic structure of all of them is very similar. Greek buildings are, by
general, a large rectangle or cube reinforced by large columns
decorated that are located at the front of the building.
The SCALE is defined as the relationship between the
drawn dimension regarding its dimension
real.

It is the relationship between the drawing measurements and the

actual measurements of the object.
IMPORTANCE

Scales are used in the field of technical drawing,

construction, architecture, etc. Its utility is to be able to

a bit unwieldy and in the second, because there would be a lack of clarity in the
definition of the same.

This problem is resolved by the SCALE, applying the expansion or

necessary reductions in each case for the objects to remain
clearly represented in the drawing plan.
