Technology in Academic Spaces
Pros:
Technology plays such a large role in the world in which we live. In the past, several
occupations did not need the use of technology, but now they do. Computers are now in many
more households than they were years ago, and more people are learning how to use them.
Children and adults use technology every day through social media, text messaging, web
browsing, interactive games, and other methods. We have grown reliant on the use of technology
in many ways as a society that is constantly evolving in that direction. In the public schools,
teaching students how to use technology and utilize it has become a top priority. The proof in this
paper demonstrates the beneficial impact of technology on pupils' learning expectations and
results. The growing use of technology integration in both public and private schools is also
supported by evidence. Technological integration has been proven to be beneficial for kids of all
ages, as well as for individuals with particular educational requirements. To reiterate, technology
integration has the benefits of 1) higher student motivation; 2) higher student participation; 3)
increased student collaboration; 4) more hands-on learning opportunities; and 5) improved
student learning outcomes. 6) improved student confidence, 6) enhanced technological
proficiency, and 6) allows for learning at all levels (Costley, 2014).
According to a study by Chiu et al. (2020), students are more successful and perform better
when they use technology to participate in discussions before and after class. This aligns with the
survey data that recorded teachers' perspectives; the results reveal that pupils can learn about
specific topics and are more engaged when using technology. In contrast, technology use might
cause students to lose concentration and get distracted (Gila, 2021). According to the survey
data, students may get easily sidetracked when using technology. In conclusion, when used
wisely and monitored by teachers during student interaction, technology is a valuable and helpful
tool in the classroom. In order to ensure that pupils are prepared for their future in this
technology-centered society, technology has grown to be a key element of 21st-century
classrooms.
Cons:
Technology has been increasingly employed in classrooms in recent years, and in certain
instances:
a. It is utilized on a daily basis by both the instructor and the pupils. Educators have observed
a shift in their students' learning methods and the influence of technology on the classroom
setting. Technology inspires and captivates students in their learning, yet it may also lead to
management challenges (Carstens et al., 2021). Although technology offers numerous benefits,
maintaining students' focus can be challenging. To address this issue, educators need to teach
learners how to utilize technology effectively.
b. Technology has been integrated into classrooms for quite a while, but in recent years, it has
significantly influenced student learning. Sometimes, technology may adversely affect students,
particularly when they lack access to a device or internet connection beyond school. Research
shows that technology cannot replace a face-to-face instructor (Chomunorwa et al., 2022).
