You are the grandfather. Some years later you are interviewed about your memories of that night
for a radio programme about local history. The interviewer asks you the following three questions
only:
• What did you see and feel during your journeys through the city that night?
• What do you remember of your granddaughter’s behaviour and reactions that night?
• What were your reasons for taking your granddaughter out that night and what do you think
she gained from the experience?

Interview (Question 3)
Interviewer: Good Morning! It’s a pleasure to have [Link] joining us on the
couch today to talk about his journey with his grand-daughter.
Grandfather: Good Morning! Thanks for having me here. Feel free to ask me
anything.
Interviewer: First of all I would like to ask you what you saw and felt during your
journeys through the city that night?
Grandfather: We were walking through empty alleys very late at night and the rst
challenge we came across was walking through deafening silence. With every
window being dark, we made or way through, walking beside shops showing signs
of bankruptcy. We saw a homeless man sleeping next to pitch-black buildings,
normally packed with people. Just as we looked around and started to realise that
we’re the only ones awake in town, we saw a gigantic shadow clumping forward. I
knew it was an elephant since I saw it on the way home. My granddaughter initially
thought it was a tram but when she realised that it was bumpy and irregularly
shaped, it hit her that it was an elephant. I grabbed her hand, didn't say a single
word and we took a closer look at the elephant.
Interviewer: What do you remember of your granddaughter’s behaviour and
reactions that night?
Grandfather: At the beginning of our journey my granddaughter was inpatient and
angry since I have woken her up while she was sleeping. I didn’t tell her where we’re
heading to. All of a sudden she made herself big and stopped, demanding me to tell
her what our destination is. I told her to quiet down. A few moments later we saw
the elephant and her reaction was phenomenal. She couldn’t believe her eyes. We
examined the elephant, catching every detail of that creature with its huge dome-
formed head. Full of shock and disbelief, she then said that no one will believe what
we just have observed.
Interviewer: What were your reasons for taking your granddaughter out that night
and what do you think she gained from the experience?
Grandfather: I saw the elephant and the man near the train station while I was
returning home that night. I wanted to make her know what crazy things happen in
the time the world is asleep. She has to learn that everything is possible and

understand that strange and unimaginable things happen on planet earth. She has
to be patient and keep her eyes open at any time. I’m completely sure that she was
anxious throughout the entire journey but the key is to handle it with peace. My
granddaughter always loved reading adventurous stories so I thought why doesn’t
she come and experience it herself.
