The Kingdom of Fools - Play Script

6. Accused (Merchant, Bricklayer, Dancing Girl) – One actor plays all 3 by changing
voice and manner - Prabhnoor
Scene 1: A Strange Kingdom
Narrator: Good Morning Ma’am and my dear friends I Tanishka will be the Narrator
for our story The Kingdom of Fools ,where a Foolish King with his minister ruled the
kingdom! Strange right ! Now I would I like to introduce my friends.
King: I Urvi will play the role of the “King”.
Minister: I Somaya will play the role of the “Minister”.
Guru: I Kush will play the role of the “Wise man the Guru”.
Disciple: I Samriddhi will play the role of the “Disciple”.
Accused(Merchant, Bricklayer, Dancing Girl): I Prabhnoor will play the role of
the “Accused Merchant, Bricklayer and the Dancing Girl”.
Narrator: Long ago, there was a kingdom unlike any other — a Kingdom of Fools!
Everything there was upside-down. People slept during the day and worked at
night. Even prices were bizarre — a single duddu (coin) could buy anything!
(King and Minister enter proudly)
King: Minister, isn’t it wonderful? In our kingdom, everything is the opposite. That’s
how it should be!
Minister: Indeed, Your Majesty. Day is night, and night is day. And all goods cost the
same — one duddu!
Scene 2: Arrival of the Wise Men
(Guru and Disciple enter, confused)
Disciple: (resisting sleep) Guruji, why is everything closed during the day? I’m
starving!
Guru: Something is wrong here. Cheap food, sleeping by day — this is not normal.
Come, let’s leave.
Disciple: But Guruji, where else will I get such tasty food for just one coin?
Guru: (sighs) Greed will get you into trouble, my child. I am leaving. You may stay if
you wish.
(Guru exits. Disciple stays.)
Scene 3: The Case of the Thief’s Death
Narrator: One day, a thief tried to rob a house but the wall fell on him. He died on
the spot. The King held court to punish the one responsible.
(King, Minister, and Disciple sit in court)
King: Who is guilty of this man’s death?
Minister: The wall crushed him. Summon the house owner!
(Accused enters as Merchant)
King: You are guilty of killing an innocent man who was doing his job.
Merchant: It was my father’s house, Your Majesty.
King: Then bring your father!
Merchant: But... he’s dead!
King: Then who built the wall?
Merchant: A bricklayer. Call him!
King: You are excused!! Minister go bring the Bricklayer!
(Accused re-enters as Bricklayer)
King: You are guilty of building a weak wall which killed an innocent man who was
doing his job.
Bricklayer: I was distracted while building. A dancing girl kept walking by jingling
her anklets!
King: You Are Excused! Minister Summon the dancing girl!
(Accused re-enters as Dancing Girl)
King: Dancing Girl you took a innocent man’s Life!!
Dancing Girl: Forgive me, Your Majesty. I was going back and forth to the
goldsmith’s shop because he delayed my jewelry.
King: You are excused!! Minister go bring the goldsmith! He must be punished.
Narrator: And so the blame passed on like a game... until finally, the old merchant
himself was blamed.
Scene 4: A Strange Execution
Minister: The stake is ready. The merchant shall die!
Narrator: But the merchant was too thin! He wouldn’t fit the stake. So, the King
ordered the execution of someone who would fit.
King: Find a fat man!
Narrator: And guess who they found? The disciple, who had grown fat eating in the
kingdom!
Disciple: (terrified) Why me?! I didn’t do anything!
Narrator: The disciple prayed to his guru. The guru, being wise, arrived instantly.
Scene 5: Outwitting the Fools
Guru: Your Majesty, I have had a vision — the person who dies now will become
king in his next life.
King and Minister: (really scared) We want to die first then!
(They run to the stake and get executed)
Narrator: The King and the minister ran towards the stake and they died and thus
the kingdom lost its foolish King and Minister.
Scene 6: A Wise Ending
Narrator: Now the question arises that who will rule kingdom now?
Disciple: Let my Guru be your king. I’ll be his minister.
Guru: But only on one condition — no more foolishness. People shall work by day
and sleep at night. Justice shall be fair.
Narrator: And that’s how the Kingdom of Fools became wise. All thanks to a clever
guru and a very well-fed disciple. Thank you!!
