Warehouse Layout and Equipment Optimization

The document presents three exercises related to logistics and storage. The first calculates the maximum number of pallets that a warehouse can hold given its dimensions. The second determines the optimal location and total cost for distributing goods between factories and distribution centers. The third creates a comparative table of the main handling equipment indicating its capacity, height, distances, and recommended use.

Exercise 1.

Create an optimal layout and the maximum number of pallets that the reserve area of a
warehouse under the following conditions:

Dimensions: 31 meters long by 31 meters wide, with a central door 3 meters wide.
for the incoming goods and another for outgoing on the opposite side, 3 meters wide as well. Height
up to the ceiling beams: 7 meters. European pallet with standard height (1.45 meters).

Conventional pallet racking will be used, with shelves 1200 mm deep, 2700 mm high.
width and 1,500 mm in height (these measurements include those corresponding to the frames).

To facilitate maneuvers, shelves are not placed on the walls of the doors.
For the aisles, it is necessary to take into account that we will use a retractable cart, with a width of 1200 mm, and
We want all the corridors to be two-way with pedestrian circulation in the central corridor.
Double circulation corridors: (1.200*2)+0.900 = 3.30m

Double circulation central aisle + pedestrian area: (1.200*2)+0.900+1 = 4.30m

Shelf heights: Warehouse height / Shelf height = 7 / 1.5 = 4.6m => 4 shelf heights.

Sides: Width of the ship - Central aisle = 31.00 - 4.30 = 26.70 / 2 => 13.35m each side.

Rows by side: Side / Shelf width = 13.35 / 2.70 = 4.94 => 4 shelves per row on each side.

Note: Double aisle + 2 shelves = 3.3 + 2*1.2 = 5.70m each 'double block'.

Rows for fund: Fund / double block = 31.00 / 5.70 = 5.44 rounded to 5. When multiplying 5 * 5.70 of the
double block results in 28.50, which when subtracted from the total background meters 31.00 - 28.50 = 2.5 gives a
insufficient value for a double corridor

The space would be utilized by placing 4 rows of two shelves and one row of one shelf, with their
subsequent corridors. (5.70*4)+(3.3+1.2+3.3)=30.60m

9 ROWS OF SHELVES * 4 SHELVES PER ROW * 4 HEIGHTS * 3 PALLETS PER SHELF * 2 SIDES

9*4*4*3*2=864 PALLETS.

Exercise 2.

Determine the optimal location and total cost for a distribution center that will receive goods from
factories F1 and F2 and distributes them to centers M1, M2, and M3, with the coordinates, volume, and costs being the
following:

Production and distribution centers

Coordinates Cost (€ / box / distance)

Volume in boxes
Point (i)
Xi Yi
F1 3 5 0.65 3,000
F2 8 2 0.65 3,000
M1 2 2 0.075 4.500
M2 4 4 0.075 2.000
M3 8 8 0.075 2,500

Coordinate X: 5.30

Coordinate Y: 3.59

Total Costes: 13.781,10€

Exercise 3.

Create a comparative table of the main handling equipment, indicating the

capacity, in weight and height, distances (short / medium / long) and recommended use.
