CHAPTER ONE
CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS OF CLC (REVISION BY GENERAL COUNCIL – 2020)
ARTICLE I — NAME
The name shall be the CLC.
ARTICLE II — TERRITORY
The territory shall include the entire Republic of Kenya and any other parts of the world
where the CLC may extend its ministry.
ARTICLE III — NATURE
Section 1: Fellowship
The CLC is a corporate fellowship based on mutual agreements voluntarily entered into by
its membership.
Section 2: Funds
No part of the funds or property of the CLC shall be distributed to any person by way of
profit or bonus. The CLC shall be a non-profit-making body. However, specified
departments may, in full compliance with government regulations, generate funds for
advancing the denomination’s mission.
ARTICLE IV — PREROGATIVES
• To approve scriptural teachings, methods, and conduct, and to disapprove unscriptural
teachings, methods, and conduct.
• To encourage and promote evangelism.
• To provide a basis for fellowship among Christians of similar faith.
• To exercise all powers of a voluntary association whose purpose is not the acquisition of
gain, under the authority of the Republic of Kenya.
• To acquire, hold in trust, use, sell, convey, mortgage, lease, or otherwise dispose of
property, whether real or personal, as may be needed for the execution of its work.
ARTICLE V — PRINCIPLES
The Kenya Assemblies of God shall represent as closely as possible, in detail, the Body of
Christ as described in the New Testament Scriptures, recognizing the principles inherent in
that body as also inherent in cooperative fellowship. Its purpose is to maintain conditions
under which believers may fellowship and demonstrate these principles and their
development.
ARTICLE VI — STATEMENT OF FUNDAMENTAL TRUTHS
The Bible is our all-sufficient rule for faith and practice. This Statement of Fundamental
Truths is intended as a basis of fellowship (i.e., that we speak the same thing). The pattern
of words used herein is not inspired; however, the truths expressed are essential to a Full
Gospel ministry. No claim is made that it contains all Biblical truth, only that it covers the
fundamental doctrines necessary to our fellowship.
Section 1: The Scriptures Inspired
The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are His
revelation to humanity— the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct.
Section 2: The One True God
The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent “I AM,” the Creator of
heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed Himself as Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit.
Section 3: The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ
The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. Scripture declares His virgin birth, sinless
life, miracles, substitutionary work on the cross, bodily resurrection, and exaltation at the
right hand of the Father.
Section 4: The Fall of Man
Man was created good and upright, for God said, “Let us make man in our image.” Through
voluntary transgression, man fell and incurred both physical and spiritual death—
separation from God.
Section 5: The Salvation of Man
Man’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
• Salvation is received through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ.
• The inward evidence of salvation is the direct witness of the Spirit.
• The outward evidence is a life of righteousness and true holiness.
Section 6: The Ordinances of the Church
• Baptism in Water (by immersion)
• Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper)
Section 7: The Baptism in the Holy Spirit
All believers are entitled to, should expect, and should earnestly seek the Baptism in the
Holy Spirit.
Section 8: The Initial Physical Evidence
The initial physical evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues as
the Spirit gives utterance.
Section 9: The Church
The Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit.
Section 10: Sanctification
Sanctification is separation from evil and dedication to God.
Section 11: Ministry
A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry is provided for a threefold purpose:
1. Evangelizing the world
2. Worshiping God
3. Building a body of saints
Section 12: Divine Healing
Divine healing is an integral part of the Gospel.
Section 13: The Blessed Hope
The resurrection of believers and the rapture of the Church is the blessed hope.
Section 14: The Millennial Reign of Christ
Christ will return with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years.
Section 15: The Final Judgment
There will be a final judgment for the wicked dead.
Section 16: The New Heavens and the New Earth
We look for new heavens and a new earth where righteousness dwells.
ARTICLE VII — RELATIONSHIP
The Kenya Assemblies of God, while self-administrative, recognizes spiritual relationship
with Assemblies of God bodies worldwide.
Section 1: General Council
Regular sessions shall be held annually.
Section 2: Special Sessions
May be held if agreed upon by two-thirds of the National Executive Committee.
Section 3: General Meetings for Spiritual Emphasis
Meetings for prayer, Bible study, and necessary business shall be held during regular
sessions.
ARTICLE IX — VOTING CONSTITUENCY
The voting constituency for General Officers shall include:
• All Presbyters
• General Council Officers
• District Officers
• Missionary Council Chair (Moderator)
• National Departmental Heads
• Vice Chancellor, CLC EAST University
ARTICLE X — OFFICERS
Section 1: General Council Officers
Officers include the General Superintendent, Assistant General Superintendent, General
Secretary, and General Treasurer. Terms are six years, with a maximum of two terms for the
General Superintendent.
Section 2: National Executive Committee
Consists of General Council Officers, District representatives, Missionary Moderator, and
National Departmental Heads.
Section 3: General Presbytery
Composed of General Council Officers, District Officers, Sectional Presbyters, University Vice
Chancellor, Departmental Heads, and Missionary Moderator.
