Lesson 8. The Temple built by Solomon


Aim: To understand the need for a place of worship.
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 6: 1-38, 1 Kings 8: 22-61, Deuteronomy 5: 1-14, 6: 14-
42

• Tent of meeting- Temporary place of worship for the Israelites during
their exodus from Egypt to Canaan.
• Mount Moriah- Chosen by the Lord. This is the mount where Abraham
took Issac to be offered as a sacrifice according to God's command. Here
king Solomon builds a temple for the Lord.
• Ark of Covenant- The ark that the Israelites carried around as the source
of power during there 40 years of wandering in the desert. Bezalel
constructed the ark as per the guidelines given by God to Moses. The
twin tablets of stone on which were engraved the 10 commandments
given by God to Moses were kept in the ark.
• Cherubim- Cherubims are supposed to be beings in the shape of humans
but also bearing the characteristics of animals. After Adam was expelled
from the garden of Eden cherubim were kept on guard. They are a sign of
God's presence.
• David-Beloved, the second king of Israel

• Hebrew months- First month Abib ( Nisan) falls on either March or

and who showers unstinted love on them. Those who look at the temple and
pray earnestly should have the assurance that their sins are forgiven. All

natural disasters famine and mental agony.

rebuild the temple but in AD70 the Roman soldiers destroyed it completely
leaving no stone standing.

Aim: To realise the truth that God raises to great heights those who revere Him
while those who do not obey commands will be disgraced for generations.

and power for his own comfort. Solomon did not consult God to take decisions
nor did he repent of his sins.

Aim: To proceed through life with complete faith in God even in the midst of
trials and tribulations.
