EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report presents an analytical overview of the Blinkit Dashboard Project


developed during my summer internship as a Data Analyst Intern. The primary
objective of this project was to utilize Power BI to transform raw operational
data into actionable business insights for Blinkit, a fast-growing quick-
commerce grocery delivery platform. The project aimed to analyse key
performance indicators (KPIs) such as total sales, order volume, customer
ratings, delivery time, and regional performance metrics. Using Power BI’s data
modelling, DAX functions, and visualization capabilities, a dynamic and
interactive dashboard was created to help management monitor performance
trends, identify improvement areas, and make data-driven decisions effectively.

The dashboard provides a comprehensive visual summary of Blinkit’s business


performance, highlighting top-performing products, peak sales periods, and
delivery efficiency across different cities. The insights derived from this analysis
offer strategic guidance on optimizing inventory, enhancing customer
satisfaction, and improving delivery operations. This project not only
strengthened my analytical and technical skills in data visualization but also
deepened my understanding of business intelligence applications in real-world
scenarios. Overall, the Blinkit Dashboard project demonstrates how Power BI
can be leveraged to convert data into strategic assets, enabling organizations like
Blinkit to sustain growth and remain competitive in the fast-evolving e-
commerce market.
COMPANY PROFILE

The Management Education and Research Institute (MERI), Janakpuri, New Delhi, is
a premier institution affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University
(GGSIPU) and approved by the All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
Established in 1995, MERI has built a strong reputation for academic excellence and
professional education in fields such as Management, Computer Applications, and
Commerce. The institute is ISO 9001:2015 certified and is recognized for fostering
innovation, practical learning, and industry-oriented skill development.

During my internship, MERI served as both the guiding organization and the professional
platform for developing my project titled “Blinkit Dashboard Analysis using Power BI.”
The college provided an ideal academic environment, mentorship, and resources to explore
how business intelligence and data visualization tools can be applied to solve real-world
business challenges. Under the guidance of the faculty mentors, I analysed Blinkit’s
operational data and designed an interactive Power BI dashboard to represent key
performance indicators such as sales performance, order trends, delivery efficiency, and
customer satisfaction levels.

The culture at MERI strongly emphasizes the integration of theoretical knowledge with
practical application, encouraging students to use technology for problem-solving and
decision-making. The internship program reflects the institution’s mission to prepare
students for the modern data-driven business world. Through this project, I was able to
practically implement concepts of data analytics, dashboard design, and insight
generation, aligning perfectly with MERI’s vision of transforming students into competent
professionals capable of adapting to dynamic industry needs.
Work Environment & Department Overview

The work environment at MERI College, Janakpuri, during the internship program was highly
professional, collaborative, and conducive to learning. The institution promotes a culture of
innovation and practical exposure, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in real-time
analytical projects. The internship program was structured in a manner that simulated an industry-
like setting, where interns were assigned specific analytical tasks and expected to produce
measurable outcomes within defined timelines. Faculty mentors and project supervisors provided
continuous guidance, helping interns develop both technical and managerial skills.

The environment encouraged open communication, teamwork, and creativity. Regular project review
sessions, peer discussions, and faculty consultations created an interactive atmosphere that
strengthened analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The use of tools such as Microsoft
Power BI, Excel, and data modelling techniques made the internship experience technically
enriching. The focus was not just on completing the project but also on understanding the logic
behind data visualization, business intelligence, and performance measurement—core skills
necessary for any aspiring data analyst or business professional.

The internship was conducted under the Department of Computer Applications, which is one of
the most dynamic and technically advanced departments at MERI. The department integrates modern
tools and technologies into its curriculum and encourages students to take up live projects based on
real-world datasets. It provides access to well-equipped computer labs, licensed analytical software,
and faculty members with strong academic and industry backgrounds. The department’s emphasis on
practical learning aligned perfectly with the objectives of the Blinkit Dashboard Analysis project,
which aimed to derive meaningful insights from operational data through Power BI. The supportive
departmental environment played a vital role in the successful completion of this analytical project
and the enhancement of my professional competencies in data analytics and visualization.
Department/ Team Description

The internship was conducted under the Department of Computer Applications at MERI
College, Janakpuri, which emphasizes practical exposure and the integration of technology
with analytical learning. The department provides students with opportunities to work on
real-time projects using tools such as Power BI, Excel, and SQL, fostering a strong
foundation in data analytics and business intelligence.

During my internship, I worked as part of a small team alongside my friend Rohit Kumar,
who was also an intern in the same department. Together, we developed the Blinkit
Dashboard Analysis Project, focusing on transforming raw business data into meaningful
visual insights. Our collaboration involved data modelling, visualization design, and deriving
key performance indicators to support analytical decision-making.

The department’s supportive environment and guidance from faculty mentors played a
crucial role in shaping our learning experience. Working as a team enhanced our technical,
analytical, and communication skills while simulating a professional workplace atmosphere.
This exposure helped us understand the importance of teamwork and coordination in
successfully completing a data-driven project.

The development of the Blinkit Dashboard Analysis Project required a combination of

processing, visualization, and insight generation. The project was primarily focused on
creating an interactive Power BI dashboard to analyse Blinkit’s business performance,
including sales trends, customer satisfaction, and delivery efficiency.

analysis.

Tasks Performed and Projects Undertaken

During my internship at MERI College, Janakpuri, I worked on a live analytical project


titled “Blinkit Dashboard Analysis using Power BI.” The internship focused on
understanding how data visualization and business intelligence (BI) tools can be used to
analyse operational data and generate meaningful insights. The primary objective was to
design a dynamic Power BI dashboard that visualizes Blinkit’s key performance indicators
(KPIs) such as sales trends, delivery performance, customer satisfaction, and regional growth
patterns.

Tasks Performed

• Collected and cleaned raw datasets related to Blinkit’s sales, customer feedback, and
delivery metrics.
• Used Microsoft Excel for preprocessing data — including sorting, filtering, and applying
formulas for accuracy.
• Imported and transformed data into Microsoft Power BI using Power Query Editor.
• Designed multiple interactive visualizations to represent KPIs like total sales, average
delivery time, and customer ratings.
• Applied DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) for calculated fields and dynamic measures.
• Structured the dashboard layout for clear, user-friendly navigation and better analytical

behaviour.
• Outcome: The project successfully demonstrated how Power BI can convert raw business
data into actionable insights. It enhanced my understanding of data modelling,
visualization, and analytics, while improving teamwork, problem-solving, and presentation
skills.
Description of Assigned Tasks

I was assigned in my internship and training, where my primary responsibility was to design and
develop an interactive Power BI Dashboard for Blinkit’s Business Analysis. The project
followed a structured weekly plan that allowed me to progressively collect, clean, analyse, and
visualize data using modern business intelligence tools. Each week focused on a specific stage of
the dashboard development lifecycle — from dataset preparation and KPI design to visualization,
testing, and final presentation.

Week 1 – Data Collection and Preparation

The first week was dedicated to understanding the project scope and gathering relevant datasets
related to Blinkit’s operations, including sales, delivery time, and customer feedback. My main
tasks included:
• Collecting raw datasets from public sources and formatted CSV files.
• Cleaning and preprocessing data using Microsoft Excel, including handling missing values
and standardizing entries.
• Using formulas, pivot tables, and sorting functions to organize the data for easy import into
Power BI.
• Identifying relevant metrics and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as total orders,
average delivery time, and sales by category.
• Creating a basic project outline and documentation for approval by the faculty mentor.

Week 2–3 – Dashboard Design and Development

The second and third weeks focused on building the core components of the dashboard using
Microsoft Power BI. My assigned tasks included:
• Importing datasets into Power BI and performing data transformations using Power Query
Editor.
• Creating relationships between multiple data tables for better analytical accuracy.
• Designing interactive charts and visuals such as bar charts, pie charts, and line graphs to
represent sales and delivery performance.
• Implementing DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to create calculated fields and measures
for advanced insights.
• Collaborating with my teammate Rohit Kumar to review the dashboard layout, ensure data
accuracy, and enhance visual clarity.
• Conducting internal testing to verify that all filters, slicers, and visuals functioned properly

• Preparing a written report summarizing insights and findings derived from the dashboard.
• Presenting the completed Power BI Dashboard to faculty mentors for evaluation and
feedback.

Through this structured weekly plan, I gained valuable hands-on experience in data
preprocessing, visualization, and analytical storytelling. The project allowed me to apply
theoretical knowledge in a real-world context, strengthening my technical understanding of Power
BI, teamwork abilities, and overall data analytics proficiency.
Application of Academic Knowledge

The internship at MERI College, Janakpuri, provided a valuable opportunity to practically


apply the theoretical concepts learned during my academic coursework in the Bachelor of
Computer Applications (BCA) program. The Blinkit Dashboard Analysis Project allowed
me to integrate various academic subjects such as Database Management Systems, Data
Analytics, and Business Intelligence into a real-world context, enhancing my understanding
of how data-driven decision-making supports organizational growth.

Concepts from Database Management were applied while handling and organizing datasets,
ensuring data consistency and integrity before importing into Power BI. The use of Data
Structures and Algorithms aided in logically structuring the data flow, while knowledge
from Statistics and Quantitative Techniques helped in calculating and interpreting KPIs
like sales growth and delivery efficiency. Additionally, Programming fundamentals and
Excel operations learned in earlier semesters supported efficient data cleaning and
preprocessing tasks.

The project also bridged academic theory with professional practice by utilizing Power BI—
a tool that embodies principles of data visualization, user interface design, and business
intelligence analytics. By applying these academic concepts in a practical project, I
developed a deeper appreciation for how classroom learning translates into actionable
insights in the corporate world. This experience strengthened my analytical thinking,
problem-solving skills, and ability to transform raw data into meaningful visual reports,
aligning perfectly with the core learning outcomes of my academic curriculum.
Challenges and Solutions

During my internship project on Blinkit Dashboard Analysis, I encountered several challenges


that tested both my technical and analytical skills. Each obstacle provided a learning opportunity
that helped me improve my understanding of data analytics, visualization, and problem-solving
techniques.

1. Data Cleaning and Inconsistencies:


One of the initial challenges was dealing with raw and unstructured data. The dataset contained
missing values, duplicate records, and inconsistent formats that affected the accuracy of reports.
Solution: I applied data preprocessing techniques using Excel and Power BI Query Editor to
remove duplicates, fill missing fields, and standardize the data structure. This ensured that the
analysis was based on clean and reliable data.

2. Understanding Business KPIs:


At the beginning, it was difficult to identify and define the most relevant Key Performance
Indicators (KPIs) for the Blinkit business model, such as delivery time efficiency and order volume
trends.
Solution: I conducted secondary research on Blinkit’s business operations and studied case
examples of similar delivery platforms. This helped me design meaningful KPIs that reflected
performance metrics accurately within the dashboard.

3. Power BI Visualization Complexity:


Creating dynamic visuals and maintaining dashboard interactivity required precise understanding
of Power BI functions, DAX formulas, and data modelling.
Solution: I explored online Power BI documentation and tutorials, experimenting with different
chart types and filters. With guidance from mentors and peers, I successfully implemented slicers,
drill-throughs, and DAX measures to make the dashboard interactive and insightful.
4. Time Management:
Balancing multiple tasks like data cleaning, visualization, and documentation within the internship
timeline was another key challenge.
Solution: I created a structured weekly plan, prioritizing tasks based on project stages. This
approach improved my productivity and ensured timely project completion.
Overall, overcoming these challenges enhanced my technical proficiency, analytical thinking, and
ability to troubleshoot problems independently—skills essential for a data-driven career path.
Inter-Personal Skills Gained

During my internship at MERI College while working on the Blinkit Dashboard Analysis
project, I not only developed technical knowledge but also enhanced several important
interpersonal skills that are vital for professional growth and effective teamwork. The
experience allowed me to collaborate, communicate, and coordinate effectively in a dynamic
learning environment.

1. Team Collaboration:
Working alongside my teammates, including Rohit Kumar and other interns, helped me
understand the importance of teamwork. We shared responsibilities, discussed challenges,
and supported each other during data analysis and visualization tasks, which improved our
efficiency and project outcomes.

Regular discussions with mentors and peers enhanced my ability to express ideas clearly and
present analytical findings confidently. I learned how to simplify complex data insights while
maintaining a professional tone during report preparation and project reviews.

CONCLUSION

The internship at MERI College, Janakpuri, proved to be a highly enriching and


transformative learning experience. Working on the Blinkit Dashboard Analysis Project
allowed me to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world data analytics
applications. Through this project, I gained hands-on experience in using Power BI for data
visualization, dashboard creation, and performance analysis, which strengthened my technical
and analytical abilities.

This internship not only enhanced my understanding of business intelligence tools but also
taught me how to interpret complex datasets and derive meaningful insights that support
decision-making. Beyond technical skills, it fostered personal growth by improving my
teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities. The experience of working
