UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

How do I love myself?

I have learned to love myself by embracing that I am not perfect, and that is fine. I tell myself
that I am still growing and that I deserve kindness and patience even from myself. When I am
feeling sad, I try to comfort myself in the same way that I would comfort someone I love. I rest, I
do something that brings me joy, and I tell myself that I am enough just as I am.

How do I love my family?

My family is everything to me. I express my love by being there, helping, spending time. For
those who are no longer with me, I keep them alive in my heart. I think of their voices, their love,
and all they taught me. Thinking of them reminds me to live my life in a way that makes them
proud.

How do I love my loved ones and friends?

I love my friends by showing up for them, particularly when they need someone to hear them. I
make them feel noticed and valued because I see how much it means to feel loved. Sometimes
it is the little things, like calling to check in, sending a text, or just making them laugh. My friends
are my chosen family, and I'm thankful for all of them.

How do I love God?

I show my love for God through faith when life seems unsure. I pray not to want things, but to
thank Him for them all, for strength, for love, for another day to get it right. I attempt to live in
kindness and forgiveness, for I think that's how God desires us to love, not in word only, but in
deed toward others.
