1. Figure 1 and 2 and table 1 shows peak-hour volumes for a major intersection on an expressway.
Using the Webster method, determine a suitable signal timing for the intersection using the Three-
phase system shown below. Use a yellow interval of three seconds for each phases and the
saturation flow given. (Pedestrian volume is negligible, all red interval R=0 and Note that The
influence of heavy vehicles has already been considered and Take PHF=1.0). The Lost time for
phase A, B and C are 4.5, 3.4 and 3.2 sec respectively.
NB.
 Left turn movement from West and East approach are permitted since the traffic volume
is less than 200 Veh/h
 NA stands for North Approach, same for other directions

Determine
a) The optimum cycle length
b) Total effective green time
c) Effective green time for each phase
d) Actual green time for each phase
e) Draw the signal timing diagram
