Introduction
The purpose of this School Based Assessment is to examine the relative expense of
fundamental culinary essentials procured from a retail vendor in contrast to those
acquired from a wholesale distributor. using the data we collected. I will chose the
establishments that are in close proximity to my neighbourhood.
This project should help in making more informed decisions about daily commercial
activities.
Objectives:
i. I will select five basic food items.
ii. I will collect receipts from both establishment
iii. I will use varies mathematical strategies to make comparisons between both
establishments.
iv. The information collected from both establishments will be used to determine
the better establishment to purchase from.

a. The two store chosen are Mega Mart, Grocery store, Portmore Road, Saint Catherine,

b. The five basic food items are: Jamaica Gold - cane sugar (5kg), Basmati long-
grained rice (10kg), Frosted Corn Flakes (510g), Simply Natural coconut oil (4L)
and Top Ramen noodle soup (5 pack)

Data Analysis
After constructing the graphs, we notice that the data collected reveals that it is much
cheaper to buy certain food items from either stores.
In Figure 1. The table shows the quantity and the cost of the food items from MegaMart
Grocery Store.
In Figure 2. The table shows the quantity and the cost of the food items from Hi-Lo
Supermarket.
In Table 1. This is a visual display of the items being compared from both
establishments.

Discussion of Findings
The cost of buying Jamaica Gold - cane sugar (5kg) at MegaMart Grocery Store is $45
less than the same cost at Hi-Lo Supermarket.
A 10kg bag of Basmati long-grained rice purchased at Hi-Lo Supermarket is more
expensive by 3.3% than buying it from MegaMart Grocery Store.
A bottle of Simply Natural coconut oil (4L) bought from MegaMart Grocery Store is
more expensive by $40 than buying the same item from Hi-Lo Supermarket.
A box of Frosted Corn Flakes (510g) purchased at Hi-Lo Supermarket is $40 more than
the same item from MegaMart Grocery Store.
The cost of buying Top Ramen noodle soup (5 pack) at Hi-Lo Supermarket is $20 more
than the same cost at MegaMart Grocery Store.

Conclusion
It was determined through brief investigation and analysis that it is cheaper to purchase
the following basic food items: Jamaica Gold - cane sugar (5kg), Basmati long-grained
rice (10kg), Top Ramen noodle soup (5 pack) at MegaMart Grocery Store rather than at
Hi-Lo Supermarket while it is cheaper to purchase Frosted Corn Flakes (510g) and
Simply Natural coconut oil (4L) from Hi-Lo Supermarket.
The cost of buying the items at MegaMart Grocery Store is $14,480.00 while at Hi-Lo
Supermarket the same items will cost $14,750.00.
From the data we ascertained, it showed us that it would be more affordable and
reasonable if we purchase all the items from MegaMart Grocery Store.
