LEARNING PLAN
S.Y 2025-2026
Subject Area: Mathematics 9 Quarter: Second
Section: All Grade 9 Unit: 1
Date: September 23, 2025 Learning Plan no. 24
Topic: Application of Direct and Inverse Variation Day: 5
Transfer Goals
The students in the long run and on their own will be able to create and resolve real-life problems
with quadratic functions and use computational skills with accuracy and precision and show
mastery of analytical procedures when working with numbers, symbols, and expressions, as well
as when applying them to the preservation of God's created world.
Essential Understanding
Students will understand that mathematical relationships in various situations, can solve real-life
problems involving equations, relations and functions through analyzing and representation as
they relate to daily-life.
Essential Questions
The students will keep considering the following:
Why is it important to understand and learn equations and variations?
I. Preliminaries
Review: How important are the changes during puberty to the male reproductive system?
Focus: Supply and Demand in Economics
Vocabulary:
Direct Variation- A relationship between two variables where one increases (or decreases)
as the other increases (or decreases) in the same ratio. Expressed as: y=kxy
Inverse Variation- A relationship between two variables where one increases as the other
k
decreases, such that their product is always constant. Expressed as: y=
x
Supply – the quantity of goods producers are willing to sell at a given price.
· Demand – the quantity of goods consumers are willing to buy at a given price
Motivation
The class will be divide into sellers and buyers. They will participate in a mini-market simulation
where some of you will act as sellers and others as buyers, and observe how changes in price
affect the supply and demand.
APK (Activating Prior Knowledge)
What do you usually notice in the market when prices increase or decrease?
II. Lesson Development
A. Presentation of Concepts
Students will know …
Supply follows direct variation: Qs=kPQ_s = kPQs=kP
Demand follows inverse variation: Qd=kPQ_d = \frac{k}{P}Qd=Pk
Students will be able to…
Solve problems involving supply (direct variation) and demand (inverse variation).
Activities
Unplugged Activity: “Market Simulation”
Direction: Students are divided into groups of sellers and buyers. Sellers (Supply) adjust their
prices and compute how many goods they can supply (direct variation). Buyers (Demand) react to
changing prices by adjusting how much they buy (inverse variation). The class records results and
plots them on graph paper, then identifies the equilibrium point.
Broadening of Concept:
How does understanding supply and demand help us make better financial and consumer
decisions?
B. INTEGRATION
a) Ignacian Core/Related Values: FAITH/STRONG FAITH IN GOD
How does fair trade and responsible consumption reflect stewardship of God’s creation?
b) Social Orientation:RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION
How can understanding supply and demand prevent waste and encourage wise economic
choices?
c) Lesson Across Discipline: ECONOMIC/SOCIAL STUDIES
How do mathematical models of supply and demand connect to real-world economics?
d) Faith/Biblical Reflection: PROVERBS 11:1
““The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.”
III. Evaluation / Assessment:
Individual Quiz: Journal Notebook
Direction: Solve the following:
If 150 units are supplied at ₱30, how many at ₱60?
If 300 units are demanded at ₱15, how many at ₱45?
Draw the supply and demand curves and mark the equilibrium point.
IV. Summary / Action
Summary: Why is it important to understand supply and demand using direct and inverse
variation?
Action: How can you use this knowledge when buying or selling in the market?
V. Purposive Assignment / Tasks
Direction: Research a real-world product (rice, oil, gadgets, or fuel). Observe how supply and
demand change when prices increase or decrease. Write how direct and inverse variation explain
your chosen product’s market behavior.
