i. ABSTRACT:

The Project is to plan, design, detail, analyse and estimate a G + 4 reinforced

concrete building manually, by Microsoft office Excel and by using software
Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD, STAAD Pro and STAAD Foundation.

The plan of G + 4 reinforced concrete building was finalised. Ground floor to be

designed for parking, the remaining 4 floors consist of 2 flats each.

4. METHODOLOGY
The plan of the G+4 Reinforced concrete building with car parking ground floor and
two flats each in remaining four plans. The position of the beam and column were
decided. Slabs were decided for each floor. According to column size, Footings were

4.1. DESIGN

4.1.3. SLAB

Slab: 01

Slab Dimension (5.18X4.81)

ly/lx=5.81/4.81=1.20 Hence 2 way slab

Assuming thickness of slab = 150 mm

Load calculation:

Live load = 3kN/m2

Floor finish and plastering = 1 kN/m2

Self weight of slab=25X0.15 = 3.75 kN/m2

Total load = 7.75 kN/m2

Factored load = 11.625 kN/m2

Moment calculation:

Mx = αy Wlx2

My =αy Wly2

Mx = αx Wlx2= 0.028×11.625×4.812=7.530kNm

My =αy Wly2= 0.028×11.625×4.812=7.530 kNm

10
Depth required:

d = sqrt((Mu)/0.133 x fck x b)

=sqrt((7.53x106)/0.133 x 25 x 1000) = 47.58mm

Providing D = 125mm; d=125-15-6 = 104mm; d’=21mm

Area of steel required:

Main reinforcement:

Mu = 0.87x fy x Ast x d (1-((Ast x fy)/fck x b x d))

7.53x106 = 0.87 x 500 x 104 (1-((Ast x 500)/1000 x 104))

Astreq= 172.14mm2

Adopting 12mm diameter bar.

Providing 150mm c/c spacing

Secondary reinforcement:

Mu = 0.87x fy x Ast x d (1-((Ast x fy)/fck x b x d))

7.53x106 = 0.87 x 500 x 99 (1-((Ast x 500)/1000 x 99))

Astreq = 181.5mm2

Adopting 10mm diameter bar.

Providing 150mm c/c spacing.

Torsion reinforcement:

Area of tension steel at each of the corner is = 75% of steel of max reinforcement

= 0.75 X 181.5 = 136.125mm2

11
Adopting 6 mm bars

Providing 100mm c/c spacing.

4.1.4. BEAM

Beam: 01

Beam eff. length = 5.18m

Width fixed to 0.23m

Assuming Depth = 0.45m

Length/Depth ratio = 5.18/0.45 < 25

Load Calculation:

Factored Load from slab = 11.625kN/m

Wall load = 0.23 x 3.2 x 15.7 = 11.55kN/m

Self weight = 0.23 x 0.45 x 25 = 2.6kN/m

Total factored load = 25.77kN/m

Moment calculations:

Mu = wl2/8; d = 450-25-8 = 417mm

= 25.77 x 5.182/8 = 86.43kNm

Mulim = 0.133 x fck x b x d2

= 0.133 x 25 x 230 x 4172 = 132.98kNm

Mulim>Mu , hence singly reinforced beam.

Area of steel required:

Mu = 0.87 x fy x Ast x d (1-(Ast x fy)/fck x b x d)

12
76.39 x 106= 0.87 x 500 x Ast x 417(1-Ast x 500)/25 x 230 x 417)

Astreq = 466.49mm2

Adopting 3#16mm diameter bar; Astpro = 603.18mm2

Providing 50% of steel in compression zone

Astcomp = 0.5 x 603.18 = 301.59mm2

Adopting 3#12mm diameter bar.

Shear reinforcement:

V = Wl/2 = 25.77 x 5.182 /2 = 66.74kN

Tv = V/bxd = 66.74/230 x 450 = 0.000645

% of steel = Astpro x 100/bxd

Tc = 0.5

T v < Tc

Providing 8mm diameter bar

Sv = 0.87 x fy x 2 x 𝜋 x 82 x d/V

= 0.87 x 500 x 2 x 𝜋 x 82 x 417/66.74 x 103

Spacing = 250mm c/c

4.1.5. COLUMN

Load calculations:

Axial load = 2300kN

Moment about smaller direction = 85kNm

13
Moment about longer direction = 170kNm {Analysed frames using moment
distribution method}

Assuming dimension of column as 230mm x 600mm

Eccentricity:

emin(x) = (3200/500 + 230/30) = 14.06mm, 20mm

emin(y) = (3200/500 + 600/30) = 23.4mm, 20mm

Taking emin = 20mm

Mu = 1.15 x sqrt(852+1702) = 218.57kNm

Pu/fckxbxd = 0.666

Mu/fckxbxd2 = 0.041

d’/D = 50/600 = 0.083

p/fck = 0.08

percentage of steel required = 2%

Asc = pxbxd/100 = 2 x 230 x 600/100 = 2760mm2

Providing 6#25mm diameter bar with 150mm c/c lateral ties.

4.1.6. FOUNDATION

Load calculation:

Factored Axial load from the column = 2300kN

Self weight of the column = 0.23 x 0.6 x (3.5+(5x(3.2))) x 25 = 67.3kN

Self weight of footing = 10% of total load = 0.1 x (2300+67.3) = 236.73kN

Total load = 2605kN

14
SBC of soil = 200kN/m2

Area of footing = 2605/200 = 13.025

0.23X x 0.6X = 13.025

X = 9.715

Longer dimension = 6m

Shorter dimension = 2.5m

Area/load = 173.6<200, Hence safe

Moment calculations:

Mu = 173(2.7)/2 = 233.55kNm

d = sqrt(Mu/0.133 x fck x b) = 265mm

Providing D = 400mm; d = 400-45-10 = 395mm

Reinforcement required = 1468.4mm2

Providing 20mm diameter bar

Spacing = 200mm c/c

Reinforcement along shorter direction:

Providing 16mm diameter bar

Spacing = 300mm c/c

Reinforcement for Central Band:

Ast = 2/(B+1) = 440mm2

Providing 12mm diameter bar with 250mm c/c
