THEORY OF DETERGENTS
A detergent is a compound capable of removing, dispersing, and suspending dirt.
the surface that is cleaned.

Detergents are surfactants, meaning they reduce surface tension.

of water, these have a molecular structure with a part soluble in water
(hydrophilic) and another soluble in oil (hydrophobic). When the surfactant is very
hydrophilic, the product is a good moisturizer with low detergent power, if by the
On the contrary, the surfactant has a large hydrophobic part, we have a good

The detergent activity of the surfactant is influenced by temperature,

addition of acids, alkalis, solvents, salts, and gums.

Surfactants can be classified based on their molecular structure as:

AGENT TENSOACIT VO STRUCTURE MOLECULAR

Anionics (Negative charge)
Cationic (Load p tax t VAT)
Non-ionic (Neutros )
Aenshrouded (Both charges, depending on the pH)

SUBSTANCES AUXILIARIES

What we commonly know as a finished product called detergent is

a mixture of one or more surfactants with detergent properties, in addition to
diluents and auxiliary substances such as those described below:

SSOLVENTS

They are used together with surfactants to degrease, some of the most commonly used.
they are gasoline, benzene, carbon tetrachloride, butyl cellosolve, ethyl alcohol, alcohol
isopropyl and pine oil, among others.

ACI DOS

For the cleaning of food processing machines, surfactants,

non-ionic surfactants are combined with acids such as phosphoric, oxalic,
citric and gluconic.

ALCALIS

They provide enough alkalinity to saponify plant-based fats or

animal, the most commonly used are caustic soda, potash, ammonia and their
derivatives, among others.

AGENTS OF SUSPENSION

Manual for the Preparation of Chemical Products for the Home 3

Compiled by Mr. Quim

They help to keep dirt particles suspended and dispersed, preventing the
re-deposition of the same on the surface that is being cleaned. The most
common are carboxymethylcellulose and bentonite.

IINHIBITORS

They protect the cleaned surfaces from being attacked. for the solution
detergent, commonly sodium metasilicate is used.

BRIGHTENERS OPTICALS

They brighten and whiten the fabrics due to a reflective effect of light when exposed to
Examples include derivatives of distearyl diphenyl disulfonate.

SKIDNAPPERS

They are used to remove the hardness of water y thus increase the foam,
Traditionally, phosphates (sodium tripolyphosphate) have been used for this purpose, but
Given their negative ecological effects, it has been decided to eliminate them and replace them.
with EDTA.

ENZIMAS

Widely used to remove food residues, it is normally used a

amylase and protease system.

DLURES

In the case of liquid detergents, the diluent is water, for powdered detergents in
powder is sodium sulfate.

Date interesting

The first predecessor of modern cars, a steam tractor, was built in France in the
second half of the 18th century, and in the year 1892 in Paris, Levassor built the first
true automobile, as it had a special place for the engine, and it even had
clutch and gears. Many inventors and manufacturers began to build
automobiles, which initially were so expensive that only the rich could afford them,
until Ransom Olds, founder of the Oldsmobile factory, built the first car
economic, but it was Henry Ford who was the first to produce them on a large scale.
