Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 2
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the grade 2 pupils should be able to create increasing patterns, sequence,
and terms;
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Creating Increasing Patterns, Sequence, and Terms
References: Grade 2 Mathematics Curriculum Guide
Materials: Pictures of shapes, chart paper, markers, worksheets
III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
Prayer & Greetings:
The teacher start the class with a prayer and a cheerful greeting.
Checking of Attendance:
The teacher will check who is present or absent.
Drill/Review:
The teacher will conduct a quick skip-counting drill.
Teacher: "Let's count by 2s! 2, 4, 6, ..."
Teacher: "Now, let's count by 10s! 10, 20, 30, ..."
B. Motivation
The teacher will show an illustration to the pupils:
1. Ask the pupils:
o "What do you notice about the circle?" (They are getting taller!)
o "How many circles do you think the next circle will have?" (21)”
C. Lesson Presentation
The teacher will introduce the lesson.
"Today, we will learn about increasing patterns. An increasing pattern is a pattern that
grows, gets bigger, or has more of something each time. Each part of the pattern is called
a term, and the secret way it grows is called the rule."
1. Patterns with Objects:
o Show a sequence using shapes.
Term 1: 2 square
Term 2: 4 square
Term 3: 6 square
Ask: "How many square added each time to make the next term?" (You are
adding 2 square)
Explain: The rule for this pattern is Add 2. So, what would the next term be?" (8
square)
2. Patterns with Pictures:
o Show a pattern on a chart.
Term 1:
Term 2:
Term 3:
Ask: "What is happening in our star pattern?" (The stars are increasing.)
Ask: "What is the rule? How many stars are we adding each time?" (The rule is
Add 2.)
Ask: "Can someone draw the next term on the board?" (A student draws 7 stars.)
3. Patterns with Numbers (Sequence):
The teacher will show a number sequence.
5,10,15,20,____,_____
Ask: "Look at the numbers. Are they getting bigger or smaller?" (Bigger!)
Ask: "How much bigger? What is the rule?" (The rule is Add 5.)
Ask: "What are the next two terms in our sequence?" (25 and 30!)
Repeat with another example, like 3,6,9,12,__,__.(Rule: Add 3).

Activity 2. Pupil to Pupil
Directions: Find the rule and write the next two terms for each increasing pattern.
1. 8,10,12,14,___
2. 2, 4, 6, 8,__,___
3. 5,10,15,20,___,___
4. 7,10,13,16,___,___
5. 20,30,40,__,_
Activity 3. Pupil to Material
F. Generalization
Ask the pupils questions to summarize the lesson:
1. "What do you call a pattern that gets bigger?" (An increasing pattern.)
2. "What do we need to find to know what comes next in a pattern?" (The rule.)
3. "Where can we see patterns around us?" (In clothes, in buildings, in songs, in
nature!)
E. Application
Directions: Complete the missing number in each number pattern.
1. 2,__,6 ____
2. 10,__30,40,___
3. 11,13,15,___
4. 6,7,8,___
5. 12,15,18,___
IV. Evaluation
V. Assignment
Directions: Draw your own increasing pattern using your favorite shape.
