2. Find the volumes of

(i) the region between the cylinder z = y 2 and the xy-plane that is bounded by
the planes x = 0, x = 1, y = −1, y = 1.
(ii) the region in the first octant bounded by the coordinate planes and the planes
x + z = 1, y + 2z = 2.
(iii) the region in the first octant bounded by the coordinate planes, the plane
y + z = 2, and the cylinder x = 4 − y 2 .
(iv) the tetrahedron in the first octant bounded by the coordinate planes and the
plane passing through (1, 0, 0), (0, 2, 0), and (0, 0, 3).
(v) the region cut from the solid elliptical cylinder x2 + 4y 2 ≤ 4 by the xy-plane
and the plane z = x + 2.

3. Find the average value of

(i) F (x, y, z) = x2 + 9 over the cube in the first octant bounded by the coordinate
planes and the planes x = 2, y = 2, and z = 2.
(ii) F (x, y, z) = x + y − z over the rectangular solid in the first octant bounded by
the coordinate planes and the planes x = 1, y = 1, and z = 2.
(iii) F (x, y, z) = x2 + y 2 + z 2 over the cube in the first octant bounded by the
coordinate planes and the planes x = 1, y = 1, and z = 1.
(iv) F(x, y, z) = xyz over the cube in the first octant bounded by the coordinate
planes and the planes x = 2, y = 2, and z = 2.

6. Find the center of mass of a thin plate of density δ = 3 bounded by the lines
x = 0, y = x, and the parabola y = 2 − x2 in the first quadrant.

7. Find the moments of inertia about the coordinate axes of a thin rectangular plate
of constant density δ bounded by the lines x = 3 and y = 3 in the first quadrant.

8. Find the centroid of the region in the first quadrant bounded by the x-axis, the
parabola y 2 = 2x, and the line x + y = 4.

9. Find the mass of a thin plate occupying the smaller region cut from the ellipse
x2 + 4y 2 = 12 by the parabola x = 4y 2 if δ(x, y) = 5x.

10. Find the center of mass and the moment of inertia about the y-axis of a thin
rectangular plate cut from the first quadrant by the lines x = 6 and y = 1 if
δ(x, y) = x + y + 1.

11. A solid cube in the first octant is bounded by the coordinate planes and by the
planes x = 1, y = 1, and z = 1. The density of the cube is δ(x, y, z) = x + y + z + 1.
Find:

a. the mass of the solid.


b. the center of mass.
c. the moments of inertia about the coordinate axes.
