MODULE 1 : RESEARCH AND DESCRIPTIVE STUDY

In the introduction of Module 1, the course structure is being outlined as well as the

mission, vision and core values of the Philippine Christian University (PCU) was

introduced for the students to understand the goals of the university and to prepare

them with their academic and professional journey in PCU.

Further to Module 1 is the overview of the topic about Research and Descriptive Study,

which taught me for a deeper understanding of the significance of its concepts in order

to prepare our research project in a well-structured, organized and systematic way as

possible. These foundational concepts are essential to ensure that the research process

is guided by clarity, accuracy and purpose.

Research, as its core is basically a way of looking for answers or by analyzing the data

to come up with a meaningful conclusion based on the right research method, sources

and evidences and the application of essential principles such as reliability, validity and

proper data collection techniques. Understanding different types of data, measurement

scales and tools for analysis allows a researcher to produce work that is credible,

accurate and useful.

I also learned that one of the most important aspects of research is identifying a

relevant topic and asking well-formulated questions that will be used as guide for

research. From there, the process involves detailed planning, choosing the most

suitable methods, and interpreting the results objectively. This process made me

1
appreciate the level of depth and dedication that researchers must commit to in order to

produce valid and credible research project.

Descriptive studies, on the other hand, is focus on observing and describing the

characteristics of a particular subject. Unlike experimental research, they don’t try to

explain why something happens instead it simply answer the question -- what. While

they may seem basic, descriptive studies are important because they give a clear

picture of what’s currently happening and can serve as a starting point for more detailed

research later on.

Learning about these concepts made me understand that research is not only important

for academic projects but also highly relevant in daily life. Whether in school, in the

workplace, or when making everyday decisions, the ability to understand and use data

effectively is an advantage.

In summary, this topic has given me a greater appreciation for the role of research and

the significance of descriptive studies. I have come to understand that credible research

is not based on assumptions nor personal opinions, but on careful observation,

systematic analysis, and well-grounded evidence. These principles will not only guide

me in preparing the research project required for submission by also may help for future

academic endeavors and serve as a valuable foundation for making informed,

evidence-based decision in real-world situations.
