WORKSHEET IN MODULE 3- SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN NATION-BUILDING
1. What is the role of science and technology in Philippine nation-building? Enumerate 5 examples.
(5 pts.)
Science and technology are key in building the Philippines as a nation, shaping different areas
and pushing growth forward. Here are five examples:
a. Economic Growth
b. Healthcare Improvement
c. Educational Advancement
d. Infrastructure Development
e. National Defense
2. What is the purpose of the Philippine Government Science and Technology Agenda? How can the
citizens help in achieving the S&T agenda/goals? (5 pts.)
The Philippine Government's Science and Technology (S&T) Agenda aims to foster innovation,
drive economic progress, improve citizens' lives, and tackle key national issues. By prioritizing science
and technology in areas like agriculture, healthcare, education, industry, and national defense, the
agenda seeks to boost the country's global competitiveness through research and development.
Citizens can play a big role in reaching the Philippines' S&T goals by supporting local
innovations, promoting STEM education, and adopting sustainable practices. Getting involved in
government programs and raising awareness about the importance of science and technology can make
a real impact. Small actions like these help drive innovation and progress for the country.
3. How can we develop Filipino scientists? Enumerate at least 3 ways each how can the government,
school, and family help in developing Filipino scientists. (5 pts.)
Developing Filipino scientists involves a collaborative effort from various sectors of society. Here’s how
each can pitch in:
a. Government
1. Provide more financial support for research and grants.
2. Implement policies that promote science and technology.
3. Promote science through public education and awareness.
b. School
1. Enhance science education with hands-on learning.
2. Encourage science clubs and competitions.
3. Offer professional development for science teachers.

c. Family
1. Support children’s interest in science with resources and encouragement.
2. Participate in science-related activities and visits.
3. Recognize and support scientific achievements and curiosity.
4. Propose an activity that will make science subject exciting in school. It may be for elementary, high
school or tertiary level. (5 pts.)
I’ll propose an activity called Camping Science Fair Extravaganza, it blends scientific
exploration with outdoor adventure, offering college students a unique opportunity to showcase their
research and engage in interactive learning. Students will present their projects at outdoor stations
around the campsite using interactive posters and hands-on demonstrations, providing a dynamic
environment for their work.
The event will feature a range of activities, including science workshops such as astronomy
nights and environmental science tasks, as well as innovation challenges where teams create
sustainable solutions and energy-efficient gadgets. Informal campfire discussions with guest speakers
and industry professionals will encourage knowledge sharing and networking in a relaxed setting.
Additionally, students will participate in outdoor competitions like a “Science Scavenger Hunt”
and “Eco-Quest,” designed to reinforce scientific concepts and promote teamwork. Networking
opportunities will be integrated through campfire games, group hikes, and other social activities,
fostering collaboration and a sense of community among participants. It offers a distinctive approach to
scientific education by combining research with adventure. This event aims to make science engaging
and memorable, promoting a love for learning and discovery about science and technology.
5. Why is indigenous science still important in the development of our society/country? Cite at least 3
reasons. (5 pts.)
1. Keeping Traditions Alive: Indigenous science includes traditional knowledge that’s been
passed down for generations. This includes things like sustainable farming techniques and
herbal medicine. Using this old-school knowledge can help us make better, more sustainable
choices today.
2. Cultural and Environmental Insight: Indigenous science is closely linked with cultural traditions
and the local environment. It gives us valuable information about nature, like how to manage
natural resources and protect wildlife. By respecting and using this knowledge, we help preserve
both cultural heritage and the environment.
3. Fresh Ideas for Modern Problems: Indigenous science often has creative solutions to local
challenges that we can use today. Combining these traditional methods with modern technology
can help us tackle issues like farming, resource management, and climate change more
effectively.
