Electronic Vibration Monitoring
ESW-Compact ( hol 600/EX )
Application: The ESW-Compact unit will be install ed on machines like
ventilators, blasts, separaters or decanters about this machines
in the application protect for inadmissible mechanical vibration
Measure principle: The mechanical vibrations are measured with a piezoelectrical
acceleration transducer. The electronic circuitry transforms the
acceleration signal into a velocity signal ( mm/s ) which is valuated
with reference to VDI 2056. The measured range is adjusted by
dip- switches inside.
The measurand value is compared with two adjustable limiting
values G1 and G2 which could be adjusted between 10 % - 100%
with two potentiometers inside the unit.
At the analog output the limiting values can be proofed when
setting the dip-switches to prove position. If the measured value
G1 exceeds to a cirtical limit, alarm relay K1 is activated after 10
seconds. If limit value G2 is exceeded for more than 5 seconds,
alarm relay K2 is activated. If value falls below the limit, alarm is
cancelled.
At the analog output a 0-20 mA / 4-20 mA current signal is
available. The current signal is proportional to the measured value
and related to the measuring range. The hol600 unit includes a
self-test of all components.

Switching output The unit has two potential-free switching contacts
K1 and K2 (30 V, 1 A). The contacts are closed
in their normal or neutral position. The relays
switch in a delayed manner. If the measured value
exceeds limit value G2 for 5s or limit value G1 for 10s,
K2 or K1 get active. Apprvoximately
0,5s after falling below the limit values, the relays
return to their normal position.
Line monitoring The switching contacts of K1 and K2 are closed in
their normal position, the relays are excited.
In the event of alarms, voltage drops and cable
breakages, the switching outputs become highly
resistive.

Electronic Vibration Monitoring
ESW-Compact ( hol 600/EX )
Technical Specification:
Critical value The critical values G1 and G2 are set within the unit by
two potentiometers between 10 % and 100 % of the
measured range. When setting the limiting values G1and
G2, the anlog output can be utilized as a balancing aid. If
limiting value G 2 is exceeded, alarm relay K 2 will be
activated 5 sec. If the critical value falls below the limiting
value G2, the alarm will be cancelled. If limiting value G1 is
exceeded, alarm relay K1 will be activated after 10 sec.
The alarm relay K1 switchies back, if critical value falls
below the limit value
If limiting value G 2 is exceeded, alarm relay K 2 will be
activated 5 sec. If the critical value falls below the limiting
value G 2, the alarm will be cancelled, the relays
return to their normal position.
Sensor monitoring The sensor is continuous by monitored as to it`s principal
function. An alarm will be triggerd as soon as the electronic
system recognizes a sensor defect.
Self-test A self-test function is integrated in the electronic which
incorporates the overall switching circuitry. The test is
activated by a switch in the housing and optically displayed
by a yellow LED.
Signal input In oder to check the switching circuitry even in a
completely installed condition, a test signal can be fed in
parallel with the sensor via test points in the housing

Range Settings
The green LED LD1 must light
up after applying the voltage
supply. The yellow and the red
LED should remain dark. The relays
switch in their normal position.
Setting the range:
The unit has three measured ranges which can be selected by the switches S1 S2 and S3.
For a proper operation of the unit, one switch shall be in position “ ON “ where as the other
two switches have to be in position “OFF“ .
Range Switch position
S1 S2 S3
10 mm/s ON OFF OFF
20 mm/s OFF ON OFF
50 mm/s OFF OFF ON
Analog output:
A constan current, optionally 0-20mA or 4-20mA ist emitted as an output variable. It is
activated by switching S4. An output current of 20mA corresponds to the 100%
value of selected measured range. The relationship 0,2 mA per %. applies to the setting 0-
20mA. 0.16mA per % applies to the setting 4-20mA.

Setting Instruction
Analog Output Settings :
The 20 mA output can be used for displaying several variables. With the standard
setting, the output current corresponds to the measured signal.
An analog value of 20 mA, for example, corresponds to a measured vibration velocity
that has reached the 100 % of the measuring range set.
By switching over, the analog output can be used to set or read the limit values G1 and G2.
When setting the limit value, a current of 20 mA means for example that the switching
threshold amounts to 100 % of the measuring range set.
Output variable Switch position
S5 S6 S7
Vibration velocity ON OFF OFF
Limiting value G1 OFF ON OFF
Limiting value G2 OFF OFF ON
Adjustment of Limiting Values
If the measuring signal exceeds certain limiting values, the ESW-Compact unit shall react by
switching potential-free relay contacts. These limit values can be set the unit by
potentiometers. The limiting values can be set between 10 % and 100 % of the selected
measuring range. By switching over the analog output can be used to set or read the limit
values G1 and G2. Output range 0-20 mA would be expedient for this purpose.
Limit value G1 is set with potentiometer P1. If G1 is exceeded for more than appr. 10s, K1 will
assume it`s switching function. If the measured value exceeds the limiting value but
temporarily, the delay time will start agin after each excess of the limit value. Limit value G2
is set with potentiometer P2. K2 will switch over if G2 ìs continuously exceeded for more than
5s.

ESW-Compact ( hol 600/EX )
Setting Instrution
When the analog output of the limiting value setting is switched over, the output current
related to 20 mA will correspond to the setting of the limiting value related to 100 % of the
measuring range. If, for example, G1 is be set to 10 mm/s = 50 % in the measuring range 20
mm/s, the output range will first be set to 0-20 mA via S4 and the output variable to limit value
G1 via S5, S6, S7. After that a current output of 10 mA (= 50 % of 20mA) is adjusted by
potentiometer P1. A current of 12mA (=4 mA + 50 % of 16 mA) should be set in the output
range 4-20 mA . After setting the limiting values, attention is to be paid that S5 will be brought
to position “ON“ and S6, S7 to position “OFF“ to activate the function of the analog output as
a measuring output.
Self-Test:
To check the ESW-Compact unit for correct operation, a self-test circuitry is integrated in the
unit. The self-test function is activated by a switch in the unit and optically displayed by a
yellow LED. K1 and K2 must switch and the red LED “Alarm“ must light up upon expiration of
the fixed delay times. The analog output must emit a current of 25 mA (+/- 5 %.) The entire
electronical system is incorporated in the self-test so that it is possible to obtain a definite
information about the function.
Function Switch position
S8
Self-test on ON
Self-test off OFF
Upon execution of a self-test, it is absolutely necessary to return switch S8 to position “OFF“
in order to ensure a proper function of the ESW-Compact unit. The yellow LED must darken
and current has to return its normal value. If the yellow LED should light up and an
increased output current flow without having actuated S8, the electronic system - continuously
monitoring the sensor - has recognized a sensor defect and starts the alarm.

Test Signal Input
Using the “ input / GND “ an external measuring signal can be fed in directly parallel with
the sensor. The transfer function of the whole electronics can be controlled with an adequate
test signal. As these connecting points are directly associated with the electronics, be
cautious.
For testing the measuring ranges 10 mmm/s, and 20 mm/s BR1 are worksides installed, BR2
is open. The sensitivy is about 100mV/g. For testing measuring ranges 0-50 mm/s, BR1 has
to be removed and soldered on BR2. The sensitivy then is 250 mV/g. The input signal has to
be sinusoidal with no DC- offset. The input resistance is 22 kOhm, the signal input is limited
to +/- 9.1 V by Z-diodes without a series resistor.
