IS Sieve sizes mm 9 (Zone-I)

10mm 100.00 100

4.75mm 97.35 90-100
2.36mm 69.55 60-95
1.18mm 47.00 30-70
600 micron 28.90 15-34
300 micron 17.50 5-30
150 micron 6.80 0-20

A3) TARGET STRENGTH FOR MIX PROPORTIONING

f'ck = fck+1.65 s
Where

f'ck = Target average compressive strength at 28 days

fck = Characteristics compressive strength at 28 days,
and s = Standard deviation

58 N/mm2
As per Target strength

A4) SELECTION OF WATER-CEMENT RATIO

As per IS 456, maximum water-cement ratio is 0.40s

Based on experience, adopt water-cement ratio as 0.300
A5) SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT

From Table 4[ IS 10262:2019], maximum water content for 10mm aggregate = 208 litre ( for 25 to 50 mm slump range )
Other than 25 to 50 mm slump, increase 3 % for every additional 25 mm slump { Clause 4.2, IS10262:2019)
Based on trials with superplasticizer water content reduction of 33.60% has been achieved.
Hence , the arrived water content = 208 X 0.70= 145.6 Litres

A6) CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT

Water -cement ratio 0.330

Cementitious material ( Cement ) content 145.6/0.30 = 485 Kg/m3
The Minimum cementious content as per CA Specification is 350 kg/m3
485 > 350 Hence ok

Cement 485

A7) MIX CALCULATIONS

The mix calculations per unit volume of concrete shall be as follows

a) Volume of concrete = 1 m3

b) Volume of cement = Mass of cement * 1

Specific gravity of cement X1000
= {(485/ 3.15) X (1 / 1000)}
= 0.155 m3

C) Volume of water = Mass of Water * 1

Specific gravity of Water X
= {(145.6/ 1.000 ) X (1 / 1000)}

= 0.1456 m3
D) Volume of chemical
admixture(Superplasticizer)@ Mass of Chemical Admixture * 1
1.1 % Specific gravity ofAdmix X
{(485X 1.11/ 1.1 ) X (1 / 1000)}
0.0049 m3

E) Volume of Crushed sand = [a - (b+c+d]

= {1- (0.155+0.1456+0.0049)

= 0.694 m3

F) Mass of fine aggregate Crush Sand (Volume of crushed sand X SG. Of crush sand X 1000)
= {(0.694X 2.805 X 1000)}
= 1946 kg

A8) MIX PROPORTIONS FOR M-50 GRADE (Kg/m3)

Cement = 485
Crush Sand : = 1946
Water = 145.60
Chemical admixture = 5.34
Water -Cement ratio = 0.30
Density = 2582

Note:- Aggregate should be used in saturated surface dry condition. If otherwise computing the
requirement of mixing water, allowance shall be made for the free(surface) moisture contributed by the
fine and coarse aggregates.
On other hand , If the aggregates are dry, the amount of mixing water should be increased by an
amount equal to the moisture likely to be absorbed by the aggregates. Necesssary adjustments
are requried to be made in mass of
aggregates. The surface water and percent water absorption of aggregates shall be determined according to IS2386(part3)
