Rationale of the Subject
For the Electrical Engineer, it is of utmost importance to know the functioning, design, and operation of the different
existing forms of electricity generation in our country and around the world, in order to compete and develop
more ways that provide us with a useful and progressive life. In Mexico, there is a huge lag in terms of
renewable energies (from wind, sun, and biomass), which is a factor of environmental degradation and a
insurmountable obstacle in the pursuit of sustainable development. The promotion of renewable energies (RE)
requires flexible contracting systems, commercially attractive conditions for private generators in the
sale of electricity to third parties, continuous and non-discriminatory access to transmission and distribution networks,
efficient and equitable mechanisms for dispatch and handling, the involvement of entrepreneurs and businesses
private, and under a special promotion regime. All these conditions are absent or blocked by the
actual legal and institutional framework.
The subject must be based on the knowledge obtained regarding direct current machines.
alternating current machines, synchronous and induction machines under the application of induced fields and
inductors, types of windings, insulations and cores, in order to facilitate the conceptualization of knowledge
operation of hydroelectric, thermoelectric, nuclear thermal, geothermal, and other plants for energy generation
electric, in various applications of industrial, commercial, and domestic demand.
The prerequisites to take this course are: Energy Conversion I, II and III, and Application of Engineering.
Mechanics and Chemistry
The corresponding subject is: Distribution Networks.
OBJECTIVE OF THE SUBJECT
The student will explain the designs, types, and characteristics of the different forms of operation and maintenance in the
electricity generating plants such as: hydroelectric, thermoelectric, nuclear thermal, as well as the
generation by geothermal, wind, through solar waves, by biomass and tidal. It will calculate the tension,
frequency, power, and power factor in the national electrical system.
