Description
This document describes the installation, configuration and maintenance of the Profibus-DP
based network using Altus ' Series Ponto I/O system and the CPU Rockwell ControlLogix.
Chapter 1, Introduction, describes the main Series Ponto's characteristics and it's components
for a distributed Profibus-DP network.
Chapter 2, Installation, lists the necessary material for the assembly of a distributed I/O
system, based in Altus and ControlLogix equipment.
Chapter 3, Configuration, presents all the steps needed to create a distributed I/O prject,
using software RSLogix 5000 from Rockwell, and how to configure and setup the equipment
which composes the network.
Chapter 4, Maintenance, shows how to verify the functioning of the system and the handling
of the messages of diagnostics proceeding from it.

1. Introduction
The Ponto Series is a distributed control system with remote I/O. It possesss a flexible
architecture that allows the access to the remote modules through different standards of
fieldbuses.
The I/O modules and standardized fieldbuses heads can in such a way be used with CPUs
Altus as well with CPUs from other manufacturers.
Therefore, PROFIBUS DP head from Altus - PO5063 - can be easily linked to a CPU 1756-
L1 5550 from Rockwell, and control remote I/O modules, as it illustrates the figure to
follow.
The maintenance of a PROFIBUS DP remote unit is facilitated by the extensive diagnostics
and the hot swap of all the I/O modules, features of the Ponto Series.

3. Configuration

3.1 PROFIBUS Network Project

To create a project and to configure a distributed I/O PROFIBUS DP network, software
RSLogix 5000 from Rockwell must be used, therefore the CPU 1756-L1 will be the master
of the network.
It will not be described here the process of installation and functioning authorization of
software RSLogix 5000. It will be consider that the same is already installed, configured and
functioning perfectly in a computer.

Software RSLogix 5000 used in the development below is V10.00.00 version

(1) Start software RSLogix 5000.
(2) Create a new project: File Æ ' New Controller '....
(3) Select the CPU type to be used: CPU 1756-L1.
(4) Define a name for the project.

(7) Configure the module following SST-PFB-CLX Scanner User’s Guide:

(8) After configuring ControlLogix 5000 download program and put PLC in Program Mode.

(9) Open SST profibus scanner configuration software that is included in the installation CD.

(10) Select “SST_PFB_CLX_MASTER” Master module and keep the standart

configurations.

To modify network's properties in the future, such as master's address and communication
speed, select PROFIBUS_DP and then edit properties:

(10) Select the communication port to be used to configure the scanner.

Verify if the PROFIBUS equipment to be installed, PO5063 Head in our case, appears in the
hardware catalogue, if not install the equipment's GSD file, following these steps, before
continuing:
(10.1) Add the equipment's GSD file, Library → ‘Add GSD’ usually provided by the
manufactirer.

(11) Insert the PO5063 head, PROFIBUS slave, from the hardware catalogue. To insert the
PO5063 head it can be drag its icon from the catalogue and drop it on the Profibus network,
or, after selecting the PROFIBUS DP network doublecilck the PO5063 Head icon form the
catalogue.

(11.1) Define the slave address in the field Station, following PO5063 module address.
Each PROFIBUS equipment has specific parameters, defined by its manufacturers, which are
listed in the equipment's GSD file.
(11.2) With the PO5063 module selected, we may insert I/o modules in its buses through out
the hardware catalogue. Select Modules Æ Add then select the desired module for the bus
and then click OK.

(11.3) After selecting all bus modules close the window by clicking OK

Each module parameter can have two or more value options. For a complete parameters
descrition, its options and functions look the PO5063 Users Manual or its CT.
(11.4) To configure an I/O module properties, select the module and doubleclick.
(12) Once the edition of the project is finished, it is necessary to transfer it to the scanner's
memory so it can be executed.
(13) Select the Edit option on SST configurator and select Connect, a message noticing that
the scanner's configuration does not match the runnig one will appear, click on Yes and then
go back to the Edit option and select Load Configuration.

(13.1) Put the configurator on OnLine mode.

(14) With the sacnner fully configurated turn the PLC to Excecution Mode.

OBS: For every change made on the scanner with the SST configurator in OnLine Mode the
PLC must be in programming mode.
To avoid PO5063 head to generate functioning state informations as diagnostics messages
the Dianosis Messages parameter of the Head should be set as desired.

3.2 PROFIBUS Parameterization

The Ponto Series modules need configuration parameters that define its functioning.
Common parameters (parameters for the head) and specific parameters for each module
exist. The parameters are specified in GSD file.
PO5063 Head possesss as common parameters the bytes defined in the table to follow.
Parameter Options Description

4. Maintenance
The maintenance of the modules is simplified by the type base used, the availability of hot
swap and by the extensive information of diagnostics, all features of the Ponto Series.
The disgnostic generation of failures, errors or operation modes, make possible for the
operator to identify and to solve problems, that might come to occur with the system, very
easily.

4.1 Diagnosis LEDs

All the modules of the Ponto Series presents LEDs to visually and quickly inform, without
the use of tools, the functioning state of the modules.
There is a LED, identified by DG, thats present in every intelligent module of Series Ponto,
that indicates any abnormality or exceptional functioning that is occurring, through an
intermittent code (blink).
The DG dianosis LED of all the Ponto Series I/O modules is standardized, and blinks up to
5 times in 8, indicating the diagnostics accordind to the table below:
DG LED state
On, steady The module is configured and being normaly accessed by the Master.
Blinking 1x The module is not being accessed from the [Link] this situation,
the module does not light its outputs either.
Blinking 2x Burnt Fuse.
Blinking 3x Failure in the 24V external source
Blinking 4x Module has diagnostics (channels).
Blinking 5x Not used (stand by).
Off, steady It should never happen. It can only occur if there is a defect on the
module, LED or the module is not connected to the bus.
For an full description of the LEDs of the board frontal of the head, its descriptions,
meanings and possible causes, to consult the messages of diagnostics of the chapter of
maintenance of the manual of use of head PO5063.

4.2 Diagnosis Messages

The diagnostics messages, or diagnostics words, can be visualized through IHMs of FOTON
series or programmers, linked to the Head, using its RS232 serial channel.
These words of diagnostics are mapped in the application memory of PO5063 head, on
M512 through M641 memory operand, totalizing 210 M operands or 420 bytes: first 20
bytes with diagnostics of the system, followed by 40 segments of 10 bytes with the
diagnostics of the modules (a segment for each position of module in GBL bus).

Altus S.A. Page: 14

Application note: PROFIBUS DP network with a master CPU Rockwell and Séries Ponto
remote units
05/09/2002 Rev: A
For an full description of the words of diagnostics through RS232 serial channel, consult the
appendix of disgnostic through serial channel from PO5063 Head Uswers Manual.
The diagnostics messages also are transferred from the slave to PROFIBUS DP Network's
Master, and are available to be treated for the application or to be visualized through the
network's configurators.
To visualize the diagnostics messages, open SST configurator in Online Mode. After that,
select the Slave whose diagnostics is desired to verify, click with the right button of mouse
and select Properties Æ Diagnostics.
