Chat

Chat is a real-time text-based communication between two or more users over a network (usually the
Internet).
It allows instant exchange of messages, images, or files using chat applications or websites.
Example: WhatsApp, Telegram, Google Chat, Facebook Messenger.
Protocols Used in Chat
Protocols are the rules that control how data is transmitted over the Internet. Some common chat
protocols are:
1. IRC (Internet Relay Chat):
One of the oldest chat protocols used for group discussions and private messaging.
2. XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol):
An open standard protocol used in many modern chat services (like Google Talk, WhatsApp
initially).
It supports instant messaging, presence (online/offline status), and group chats.

Email
Email is a method of exchanging digital messages between people using the Internet.
It allows users to send and receive text, images, files, or documents electronically through mail
servers.

Example: Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Outlook, Rediffmail

Protocols Used in Email

Video Conferencing
Video Conferencing is a technology that allows two or more people at different locations to
communicate in real time using both video and audio over the Internet.
It enables face-to-face meetings without the need to be physically present in one place.
Example: Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex

Disadvantages:
1. Requires a stable Internet connection and device.
2. Lack of personal interaction between teacher and student.

2. e-Banking (Electronic Banking)


Definition:
e-Banking is a system that allows customers to perform banking activities online such as checking
account balance, transferring money, or paying bills through the Internet.
Advantages:
1. Saves time and effort—no need to visit the bank.
2. Available 24×7 for transactions.
Disadvantages:
1. Risk of cyber fraud or hacking.
2. Not suitable for people without Internet access or digital knowledge.

3. e-Shopping (Electronic Shopping)


Definition:
e-Shopping means buying and selling goods and services through online platforms using the Internet.
Advantages:
1. Easy to compare prices and shop from home.
2. Greater variety of products available.
Disadvantages:
1. Risk of receiving defective or fake products.
2. Delay in product delivery or refund.

4. e-Reservation (Electronic Reservation)


Definition:
e-Reservation is the process of booking tickets for travel, hotels, or events online through websites or
apps.
Advantages:
1. Saves time — no need to stand in queues.
2. Available 24×7 for booking and cancellation.
Disadvantages:
1. Requires Internet access and online payment facility.
2. Errors or server issues can cause booking failures.
