Homemade Volcano Experiment Guide

This document describes an experiment to create a homemade volcano model using materials such as crepe paper, plastic cups, vinegar, and baking soda. The aim is to explain the volcanic phenomenon through a practical demonstration. The procedure for building the volcano and triggering the eruption by mixing vinegar and baking soda is explained, producing a chemical reaction that emits carbon dioxide. The results show how a foam similar to

Volcanology
Theme: a homemade volcano

Objective: to explain through an experimental model, the representation of a volcano, using

homemade materials and the phenomenon it produces.

Hypothesis
If we place the baking soda and vinegar inside the already made volcano, it should be seen that little by little
It starts to rise when observing the explosion; you can see how combining the ingredients produces it.
a liquid similar to lava.

Procedure and development

For the preparation of this volcano, the first step we are going to take is to cover a plastic cup.
with brown crepe paper or another color all around the glass. We have to leave a space inside it.
where we will place a small jar so we can empty the products we will use to make the
explosion.

Next step: once the volcano is formed, we mix the ingredients inside the plastic jar that
it's baking soda and vinegar and we wait for the lava to be produced.

Finally, we see how a chemical reaction occurs with the ingredients as they emit carbon dioxide.
considerable carbon in the foam that is formed.

Background
For the development of this experiment, we relied on the field of science known as
volcanology.

Volcanology is the study of volcanoes, lava, magma, and other geological phenomena.
It refers to a heat source and a material capable of melting, in such a way that it focuses on the
study of the ejected material, structures that form and the associated processes and interactions
formation and evolution of the melting, as well as the origin of the heat source.

Materials
A small plastic bottle Crepe paper

A large plastic cup Cardboard base

Vinegar Bicarbonate

Plasticine

Explanation of the experiment

considerable carbon in the foam that forms.

Result
As a first point, we have: Upon closely observing the moment of the explosion, I could see how to
mixing these ingredients produced a liquid similar to lava, it flows slowly and at
moment of exploding the lava that flows down the low plasticine mountain quickly and produces a
kind of holes in our model.

As a second point we have: When mixing vinegar which is acetic acid with the product that
sodium bicarbonate contains a special and rare chemical reaction, which releases a
generous amount of dioxide ofcarbonwhat can be observed in the foam, this causes it to rise the
product and upon encountering O2 explodes due to the reaction of substances. In this experiment, it
you can observe chemical and physical reactions.

Conclusions

A volcano is a fissure in the interior of theearththat flows into a mountain range in the crust
terrestrial, emanates products like volcanic magma, ash, fire, steam, etc. There are many types of
volcanoes and each of them has similar yet unique characteristics. This experiment was
