Problem Statement
Digital Illiteracy in Current Teaching
According to Gutiérrez (2003), the digital revolution provides languages, forms of
communicate and new environments that require new skills from the
user, especially those who are in frequent contact with the
means and forms of communication that appear throughout everyday life, to
they are required to be trained in digital reading and writing.
Similarly, Ballestero (2002) states that the use of ICT is going
popularizing in everyday life just like there are people who stay
delayed, running the risk of social exclusion, due to the fact that they are
beyond the vital opportunities that require the achievements of citizenship
social. That is to say, its use is becoming increasingly common and little by little it
is becoming something indispensable. The problem lies in that not all the
people do not have what it takes to face these new developments
technological, whether due to lack of resources, motivation, digital education, among others
others.
As mentioned earlier, these changes require certain
technical skills and new symbolic knowledge for the new way of
communication, otherwise appears what is commonly referred to as 'Gap'
Digital," expressed according to Serrano and Martínez (2003) as the separation that
there is between people who use ICT as part of their daily life and
those who do not have access to them or do not know how to use them. Also
It happens that people who do not join are often found.
use of technologies due to lack of interest or they do not give it importance.
Finally, Information and Communication Technologies today have
as fundamental tools and resources to issue and access the
information, impacting important fields of society such as the
educación. Gracias a las TIC’s se puede estar actualizado con lo que ocurre en
el mundo, contando a su vez con diversas fuentes de información acerca de un
same content, enabling students to access more data
regarding a specific topic, directing learning to a level
superior.
However, the integration of them has become complicated in the
teaching and learning processes, mostly by the faculty.
Regarding this issue, the Cabinet of Communication and Education of
the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and aulaPlaneta have published the
study 'Perspectives 2015: The use of audiovisuals in the classrooms', which analyzes
the influence of new technologies on the educational environment, focusing on
in the use of audiovisuals in the classroom, highlighting the need to integrate
audiovisual technology in education. This study shows that the use
The use of audiovisual content is sporadic and is only used by less than
50% of teachers in Spain, while the ideal would be the use of 70%
pero para lograr esto, es necesaria la formación de los docentes y la provisión
the necessary resources for progress. The report also states that it
needs to promote an intensive training campaign on the use of
audiovisual and digital literacy.
The implementation of ICT in the education of today's society is
necessary and the teachers are aware of it, however, for the most part
it has become difficult to integrate them into teaching processes and
learning. Therefore, there is a big difference between the student and the
professor in the sense that they use existing tools, which causes
a low interaction, creativity, commitment, and collaborative participation in
the academic activities. Now, the results yielded by studies
many researchers show us that digital literacy is a
fundamental element for personal, academic, and social development of the
students, therefore, their integration into educational processes allows for expansion
the possibilities of communication and learning among individuals, which does not
It takes place in most courses because the teachers do not show
no motivation to use ICTs and show little interest in changing this
situation.
