A step-by-step guide to learning Microsoft PowerPoint 2007


1. Introduction to PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation software used to create slideshows. It helps present
information with text, images, charts, videos, and animations. PowerPoint is widely used in schools,
offices, and businesses.

2. PowerPoint Window Explained


When you open PowerPoint 2007, the window has the following parts:
• Title Bar – shows the name of the presentation.
• Ribbon – contains tabs like Home, Insert, Design, etc.
• Slide Pane – the main area where you create slides.
• Slide Sorter – small view of all slides on the left.
• Notes Pane – add notes for the presenter.
• Status Bar – shows slide number and view options.
3. Home Tab
The Home tab has the most common tools you need for creating slides.
• New Slide – adds a new slide.
• Layout – changes slide layout (title, text, content).
• Font Group – change font, size, color, bold, italic, underline.
• Paragraph Group – add bullets, numbering, alignment, line spacing.
• Drawing Group – insert shapes and apply styles.
4. Insert Tab
The Insert tab allows you to add objects to your slides.
• Picture – insert image from your computer.
• Clip Art – insert images from PowerPoint collection.
• Shapes – add rectangles, circles, arrows, etc.
• SmartArt – add diagrams.
• Chart – insert bar chart, pie chart, etc.
• Table – insert a table for data.
• Text Box – write text anywhere on slide.
• WordArt – add decorated text.
• Movie and Sound – add videos and audio files.
5. Design Tab
The Design tab is used to change the look of slides.
• Themes – ready-made slide designs.
• Colors, Fonts, Effects – customize themes.
• Background Styles – change slide background.
• Page Setup – change slide size or orientation.
6. Animations Tab
Animations make your presentation more engaging.
• Slide Transitions – effects when moving from one slide to another.
• Custom Animation – add animation to text or objects.
• Animation Pane – control the order of animations.
7. Slide Show Tab
The Slide Show tab lets you run and control your presentation.
• From Beginning – starts slideshow from first slide.
• From Current Slide – starts from the slide you are on.
• Rehearse Timings – practice timings for each slide.
• Record Narration – record your voice for the slideshow.
8. Review Tab
The Review tab provides tools for checking your work.
• Spelling – check spelling mistakes.
• Comments – add notes or feedback on slides.
9. View Tab
The View tab changes how you see your presentation.
• Normal View – default editing view.
• Slide Sorter – see all slides as thumbnails.
• Notes Page – add notes for each slide.
• Slide Master – edit the overall design of slides.
10. Creating a Simple Presentation (Step-by-Step)
1. Open PowerPoint and choose Blank Presentation.
2. Add a Title Slide with a title and subtitle.
3. Insert a New Slide and add some text.
4. Insert a picture or chart.
5. Apply a theme from the Design tab.
6. Add transitions and animations.
7. Save your presentation.
8. Run the slideshow using F5.
