Tutorial-1 (September 2024)
Note: You MUST attempt ALL the questions and in case of doubts, please use whatsapp
group for discussion. If there is no discussion from you, it would be assumed that you
have solved all the questions completely and may be asked to do the same during tutorial
session
Question-1: Find the -3dB frequency, and voltage outputs of the following circuit at 2kHz
and 10kHz. Vin = 1V, R = 2 kΩ, and C = 2 µF. Draw a qualitative curve for gain G(ω) and
phase φ(ω) as a function of the frequency, ω. Identify the pass, transition and stop bands.
Estimate the slope of the gain curve in the transition band.
Question-2: Find the cut-o frequency, and voltage outputs of the following circuit at
1kHz and 5kHz. Vin = 1V, R = 1 kΩ, and C = 4 µF. Identify the type of passive filter the
circuit represents.
Question-3: Think about and evaluate the functionalities of the following circuit.
Question-4: Derive the transfer function of the following circuit, and derive expressions
for the cuto frequency, and the quality factor Q. Note that ‘A’ is the closed loop gain of
the operational amplifier (OPAM) and the input is assumed to be connected to the non-
inverting terminal of the OPAM. Subsequently, design filters using the same topology and
the following parameters (with gain ‘A’ =5): (a) make a second order low pass filter with a
cuto frequency fC = 3 KHz and a quality factor of Q = 1.3. (b) make a second order high
pass filter with a cuto frequency fC = 1 KHz and a quality factor of Q = 1.2.
Question-5: Work out the working of the following circuits and calculate the output
voltages.
