Technology & Communication

In recent years, more and more people are choosing to communicate through
social media instead of face-to-face interaction. What problems does this
cause? What solutions can you suggest?

It is undeniable that a preference for communicating via online over direct

interaction is increasingly common today’s world. This essay will outline some of
the key issues related to this trend and put forward several ways to tackle them
effectively.
One of the major problems caused by relying on social media is weak real-life
communication. This is mainly because people spend most of their time interacting
through screens, so they do not practise essential social skills such as eye contact,
active listening, and expressing emotions in person. As a result, many individuals
feel anxious or uncomfortable in real conversations, which can negatively impact
their relationships and career opportunities. Another significant issue is lower
productivity, which often leads to wasted time and a decline in academic or work
performance. When individuals constantly check notifications or scroll through
social media during study or working hours, they lose focus and require more time
to complete even simple tasks.

To tackle these issues, several measures can be taken by individuals. One effective
solution would be to use screen-controlling apps, as they can help reduce the
excessive use of digital devices and limit time spent on social media. Another
possible approach is to engage more in face-to-face interactions by meeting
friends, participating in social events, or joining community activities. This could
be beneficial because it can help rebuild their confidence and improve social skills.
For example, teenagers who join local sports clubs or study groups can learn how
to communicate effectively with others, rather than relying on online messages.
In conclusion, although relying on social media for communication has created
several challenges, there are several effective solutions that can be implemented. If
both individuals and governments take action, this issue can be significantly
reduced in the future.
