Title: Introduction
Knitting is a craft that has been around for a long time and it’s not going anywhere. Many knitters make up today’s
growing maker community and you can join in, too! With its relaxing and stress-relieving benefits, knitting is easily a
form of self-care. Plus, you end up making some awesome things for yourself or your loved ones. The patterns in this
book were designed with the beginner knitter in mind or experienced knitter that loves simple projects. With each
project, you will learn a new technique and/or stitch. Completing all or most of the projects, will familiarize you with
the basics and you will be ready to confidently expand your knowledge of knitting. So, take a moment to knit and
experience the benefits – because a world full of knitters is a great thing to have.
Title: Tools
Yarn
Yarn comes in a variety of weights, materials, and textures. As you try out and become familiar with different types
of yarns, you will start to prefer some over others. Yarn choice is very personal. However, it is very important to note
the yarn weight listed in a knitting pattern. For best results, check carefully and choose a yarn with the suggested
yarn weight. The projects in this book include the following yarn weights:
Weight 4 medium worsted (10 ply)
Weight 5 bulky/chunky (12 ply)
Weight 6 super bulky/chunky (14 ply)
Knitting Needles
Knitting needles come in a variety of materials and sizes. Straight needles are often used for knitting flat pieces and
circular needles are often used for knitting in the round (but can also be used to knit flat). When finding the right
size, look for the width in millimetres (mm) and length in centimetres (cm) or inches (in). Just like with yarn, knitting
patterns will list the size needed to complete your project.

Scissors – for cutting yarn and trimming ends
Paper and Pen – for taking notes and keeping track of rows
