“Good morning everyone. Today, we will take you on a quick journey back in time to the
Ottoman Empire — the heart of Turkey’s history. Our talk is about Ancient Ideas That Changed
the World, and we’ll show you how Ottoman culture still shapes our lives today.”
Slide 2 – Introduction
“The Ottoman Empire lasted for over six centuries, making it one of the longest-lasting empires
in history. It stretched across three continents, ruling parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa. But more
than just size, the Ottomans are remembered for the big ideas they gave to the world — from
architecture to coffee, and even laws that influenced the way countries are governed.”
Slide 3 – Architecture: Building the Skies
“When you look at the skyline of Istanbul, the first thing you notice are the domes and tall
towers called minarets. These were the masterpieces of Ottoman architects. They weren’t just
buildings — they were symbols of power, beauty, and faith. One of the most famous examples is
the Hagia Sophia, which blends different cultures together in one amazing design. Even today,
modern architects borrow these ideas when designing big stadiums or religious buildings.”
Slide 4 – Coffee Culture Begins
“Now let’s talk about something that touches all of our lives — coffee. Believe it or not, the
Ottomans were the first to create coffee houses in the 1500s. People would gather not just to
drink coffee, but to talk, play games, and share music. It was more than just a drink; it was a way
of building community. Thanks to them, coffee spread across Europe, and eventually to the
entire world. In fact, without the Ottomans, there might be no Starbucks today!”
Slide 5 – Laws and Fairness
“One of the greatest Ottoman rulers was Sultan Suleiman, also called The Lawgiver. He believed
that laws should bring fairness and order. His system, called the Kanun laws, gave people more
protection and rights, no matter if they were rich or poor. This idea of organized, fair law
influenced many countries later on, showing that justice should be available to everyone.”

“When we put all these ideas together, we can see just how important the Ottomans were. They
gave us architecture that still inspires skylines, coffee culture that we enjoy every single day, and
laws that taught the world about fairness. In many ways, Turkey’s Ottoman Empire still lives
with us, even centuries later.”
