*****
Hà Tân Sa - PP.24.070
The textbook English 6 - Global Success was selected for evaluation because it is part of the new national general education curriculum
and has been officially approved by the Ministry of Education and Training. It is currently in widespread use across many lower secondary
schools in Vietnam, which makes it a highly representative and reliable sample for analysis. The textbook provides a coherent structure that
balances the development of language skills, grammar, vocabulary, and cultural knowledge, ensuring that learners are supported in both linguistic
competence and communicative competence. It is also accompanied by a rich set of supplementary resources, including audio files, workbooks,
and teacher’s guides, which facilitate the implementation of innovative teaching methods and formative assessment practices. Furthermore, the
content of the book is closely connected to the everyday experiences of Vietnamese learners while simultaneously introducing them to broader
global perspectives, thereby fostering both local identity and intercultural awareness. Evaluating this textbook thus allows for a comprehensive
consideration of its effectiveness in meeting educational objectives, supporting modern pedagogical approaches, and addressing the practical
needs of students and teachers within the Vietnamese educational context.
1
Criteria 42: Textbooks must be supported with accompanying materials to ensure the complete and effective implementation of
teaching
Focus of evaluation:
+ For primary education: The textbook must provide audio recordings of all listening texts and picture cards to support teaching
activities according to the textbook;
+ For lower and upper secondary education: The textbook must provide audio recordings of all listening texts in the book;
• Assess the variety of supplementary materials (in addition to the basic supplementary materials, the textbook should also include
supplementary materials such as software programs supporting teaching activities, online support platforms, and other appropriate
resources).
Score 1: Supplementary materials are sufficient for implementing all textbook content.
Score 2: Supplementary materials are sufficient and diverse to ensure the implementation of all textbook content.
Claim 1: The accompanying learning materials are sufficient to cover all content of the textbook
Through the evaluation, we found that the accompanying materials of Tiếng Anh 6 – Global Success, especially the core ones such as audio
recordings, are sufficient to ensure full coverage of the textbook content. These materials enable both teachers and students to implement and
engage with all units and skills effectively.
2
Each unit is supported with dialogues and listening passages that directly reflect the target vocabulary, grammar, and communicative functions.
For example, in Unit 1 – My New School, the recordings provide dialogues and listening passages about school activities, ensuring students
practice the target vocabulary and grammar. In Unit 2 – My House, the audio presents conversations about rooms, furniture, and daily routines,
closely matching the lesson content. In Unit 3 – My Friends, the recordings focus on friendship and everyday activities, while in Unit 4 – My
Neighbourhood, they describe places and services in a community, supporting the communicative functions of the unit. In Unit 5 – Natural
Wonders of the World, the listening texts present descriptions of famous places and landscapes, reinforcing topic-based vocabulary. Moving on,
Unit 6 – Our Tet Holiday includes recordings of conversations about traditions, customs, and holiday preparations, which link directly to cultural
content. In Unit 7 – Television, the audio materials provide listening texts on TV programs and viewing habits, ensuring relevance to the unit’s
theme. In Unit 8 – Sports and Games, dialogues and passages highlight different sports activities, fully aligned with the unit’s vocabulary and
grammar. In Unit 9 – Cities of the World, the recordings present information about famous cities and landmarks, reinforcing students’ knowledge
of geography and culture. In Unit 10 – Our Houses in the Future, the audio introduces futuristic ideas and house designs, which directly support
the lesson content. In Unit 11 – Our Greener World, the recordings focus on environmental issues and green living, matching the grammar and
vocabulary objectives. Finally, Unit 12 – Robots features dialogues and listening passages about robots and technology, consistent with the lesson
topics. Importantly, all Review sections (1–6) are supported with audio that revises vocabulary, grammar, and skills from previous units, ensuring
complete consolidation.
Therefore, across all units and review sections, the basic accompanying materials fully reflect the themes, vocabulary, grammar, and
communicative skills of the textbook, proving that it is sufficient to cover and implement the entire content of the book.
Claim 2: The accompanying learning materials are diverse to ensure the implementation of the textbook content
Evidence 1: Basic accompanying materials – Audio: The textbook is supported by a full set of audio recordings for all listening activities,
ensuring that every Listening section in the book is backed by authentic input and enabling students to develop listening and pronunciation skills
in alignment with lesson objectives.
3
Evidence 2: Digital supplementary resources: Interactive tools such as Sách mềm 2.0 (E-book), electronic lesson slides, and teaching
plans provide teachers with comprehensive support in lesson delivery. These resources diversify teaching methods, enabling classroom interaction
and allowing teachers to adapt activities flexibly.
Evidence 3: Online support platforms: The system of [Link], along with the test bank and smart learning resources, expands access
beyond the classroom. Students and teachers can review content, practice exercises, and conduct assessments online, which promotes continuity
of learning and provides multiple modes of engagement.
Evidence 4: Other accompanying materials: A wide range of additional resources is available, including the Workbook, Teacher’s
Book, illustrative teaching plans, demonstration videos, pronunciation support videos, and extended materials. These help consolidate textbook
knowledge, provide guidance for teachers, and support students in independent practice and extension activities.
Discussion
Argument 1: The Audio materials of English 6 – Global Success fully support and cover all content of the textbook. Each unit is accompanied
by recordings that match the specific topics, vocabulary, and grammar introduced in the lessons. The audio tracks include dialogues,
conversations, and listening passages that are directly linked to the themes of each unit, such as school life, houses, friends, neighbourhoods,
natural wonders, holidays, television, sports, cities, future houses, the environment, and robots. In addition, pronunciation sections are always
supported with clear audio models, helping students practice sounds, stress, and intonation in line with the lesson content. All Review sections
also provide listening materials to consolidate knowledge and skills from previous units. As a result, the Audio package ensures that teachers can
implement every lesson completely and that students can practice and reinforce all lesson content effectively.
Argument 2: The diversity of accompanying learning materials in English 6 Global Success strongly supports the implementation of the textbook.
Audio files ensure comprehensive practice for all Listening tasks. Digital materials modernize lesson delivery, offering interactive options that
align with current teaching methods. Online platforms extend learning opportunities, making resources accessible anytime and anywhere, thus
4
increasing flexibility for both teachers and students. Moreover, printed and video-based supplementary resources provide additional channels for
reinforcement, skill-building, and practice.
In comparison with Claim 1, which confirms that the accompanying resources are sufficient to cover all textbook content, Claim 2 demonstrates
that the materials are also diverse, spanning multiple modes (audio, digital, online, print, and video). This ensures that teachers can adopt varied
approaches and students can engage with content through different modalities, thereby promoting deeper learning, learner motivation, and
adaptability to classroom contexts.
Final Results
Through the above review, evaluation, and discussion, we would like to draw the following conclusions:
English 6 Global Success meets Criterion 42 in group 5 well.
Specifically:
● In Claim 1, the accompanying learning materials are sufficient to cover all content of the textbook. In line with Criterion 42 for lower
secondary education, the textbook provides a complete set of basic accompanying learning materials, ensuring that every unit and the
review section in the textbook is fully supported and covered.
● In Claim 2, the accompanying learning materials are also diverse, spanning multiple modes including audio, digital resources (Sách mềm
2.0, electronic lesson slides, teaching plans), online platforms ([Link], test banks, smart learning resources), and other supplementary
materials (Teacher’s Book, Workbook, teaching videos, pronunciation support videos, enrichment resources). This variety ensures flexible
and engaging teaching and learning, while supporting different teaching contexts and learner needs.
In Criterion 42, the accompanying learning materials in the textbook are both sufficient and diverse to ensure the full implementation of all
textbook content. Therefore, we rate English 6 Global Success as Score 2 for Criterion 42.

Conclusion
Global Success 6 is fully supported with diverse accompanying materials, such as books, audio files, test
banks, and digital resources. These materials ensure the complete and effective implementation of teaching.
Score 2/2
Criteria 43: Accompanying materials are suitable for the content of the book and the conditions in Vietnam.
Focus of evaluation:
+ For primary education: The basic accompanying materials are listening texts in the book and visual worksheets that support teaching
activities according to the book.
+ For secondary education: The basic accompanying materials are the listening texts of the book.
8
Scoring scale:
• Score 1: The basic accompanying materials are consistent with the content of the textbook.
• Score 2: Both the basic accompanying materials and other accompanying materials are consistent with the content of the textbook.
Claim 1. Accompanying materials are suitable for the content of the book
Through the process of evaluating the book Global Success 6, Volume 1 and Volume 2, we found that all the accompanying documents
in the book meet the criteria of content "consistent with the content of the book", here are some specific examples to prove this:
Evidence 1: In Unit 1: My New School (English 6 – Global Success, Textbook + Audio), students listen to a recording of a student talking
about his school in the United States. Although the content of the lesson is new because it is not a school in Vietnam, it is very familiar and helps
students recall their school, friends and school activities. This makes the listening task more meaningful, allowing students to connect with
familiar content while also consolidating new knowledge.
Evidence 2: In Unit 6: Our Tet Holiday, the listening material centers on Tet, giving students the opportunity to hear about a Vietnamese
family’s preparations for the festival. This audio is highly suitable for Grade 6 learners as it aligns with the unit theme, vividly illustrates
Vietnamese traditions, and emphasizes the country’s most important holiday, which all students should learn about. Moreover, it helps deepen
students’ understanding of cultural practices and fosters greater appreciation of national identity.
Claim 2. Accompanying materials are suitable for the conditions in Vietnam
Evidence 1: The cost of the Global Success 6 workbooks in Vietnam is significantly higher than that of standard textbooks. For instance,
each volume of the Global Success 6 workbook is priced at approximately 32,000 VND. Since both volumes are typically required for one
academic year, the total cost amounts to about 64,000 VND, which is notably greater than the average price of regular workbooks issued under
the national program. This price differential makes the materials less affordable for many families and may limit their accessibility in a cost-
sensitive education market like Vietnam.
9
Evidence 2: The Online testing bank in Global Success 6 offers a forward-looking solution that is partially compatible with Vietnam’s
digital education goals. This tool supports efficient and systematic student assessment, reducing manual grading time and facilitating data-driven
teaching—attributes that dovetail with the Ministry’s push for digital assessment frameworks. However, its practical implementation is contingent
upon reliable digital infrastructure. In many remote or less-resourced areas, the lack of access to computers, stable internet, and teacher training
poses significant barriers, limiting its universal applicability.
Discussion:
Argument 1: The accompanying materials in the English 6 – Global Success series are well-aligned with the textbook content and age-
appropriate for Grade 6 learners. Audio files and digital resources are carefully designed to follow each lesson, enabling teachers to integrate
them seamlessly with the main textbook. This integration not only supports students in keeping up with the content but also makes the process of
teaching and learning English more effective and accessible.
Argument 2: The accompanying materials of Global Success 6—specifically the workbooks and the online testing bank—offer useful
pedagogical tools but are only partially compatible with the Vietnamese context. While they deliver improved assessment capability and
curriculum support in schools with sufficient funding, their high cost makes them less accessible to many families, especially in rural or low-
income areas. Moreover, significant disparities in digital infrastructure and internet access between urban and remote regions further constrain
the practical usability of the online testing bank.
Final results
The accompanying materials are generally aligned with the content of the textbook. Through the above review and evaluation, we conclude that
English 6 Global Success only partially meets Criterion 43 in Group 5. Specifically, the accompanying materials such as CD/Audio recordings
are engaging and fully applicable to the textbook as well as the teaching and learning environment in Vietnam. Similarly, other attachments like
10
the Workbook, Teacher’s Book, and test bank are considered appropriate. Nevertheless, the complimentary electronic materials, including E-
lessons and demo videos/animations, although showing improvements, are not yet proportionately suitable for the Vietnamese teaching–learning
context, both culturally and pedagogically. This limitation mainly stems from reliance on technology and internet access, as well as varying levels
of teachers’ digital proficiency. Therefore, we rate English 6 Global Success with a score of 1 for Criterion 43.

Criteria 44. The accompanying learning materials support innovation in teaching and assessment methods; help learners self-study, self-
check and evaluate and form active learning methods.
Focus of evaluation:
• Assess the extent to which the materials support innovation in teaching methods and assessment, enabling learners to self-study, self-
assess, and form active learning approaches.
• Score 1: The accompanying materials support the innovation of teaching methods and assessment.
• Score 2: The accompanying materials support the innovation of teaching methods and assessment, while also helping learners with self-
study, self-assessment, and the development of active learning strategies.
Claim 1: The accompanying materials support the innovation of teaching methods and assessment.
Evidence: Through the evaluation, we found that all the accompanying materials in the book met the sub-content 1 well, here are a few specific
examples to demonstrate this:
Evidence 1: In Unit 1 (My new school) - Getting started - English 6 – Global Success, pages 6–7, this section always has an audio with a
conversation related to the topic “My new school” for students to listen and read, which enhance listening skill rather than focusing on traditional
method such as grammar.
16
Evidence 2: The Workbook is designed in alignment with the topics of each unit in the textbook, providing extra practice exercises that
help students review and consolidate the knowledge learned in class. In addition, teachers can monitor student’s progress and support
improvements by collecting the results in the workbook.
Evidence 3: In Unit 3 (My friends) - Project - English 6 – Global Success, pages 35, each project always has a checklist that allows
students to reflect on their learning in terms of vocabulary, grammar, and [Link] regularly using these checklists, students can monitor their
own progress, identify areas for improvement, and set personal learning goals.
Claim 2: The accompanying materials not only support the innovation of teaching methods and assessment, but also enable learners to
self-study, self-assess, and develop active learning strategies.
Through the evaluation, we found that all the accompanying materials in the book met the sub- content 2 well, here are a few specific examples
to demonstrate this:
Evidence 1: In Unit 2 (My house), English 6 – Global Success, pages 20–21, in the Communication part, students are asked to work in
pairs to ask and answer questions about houses using guided dialogues and pictures. They also listen to audio recordings to check pronunciation
and intonation. This type of exercise allows students to actively engage in communication, practice independently, and monitor their own accuracy
by comparing with the given model. Without constant teacher support, learners can still complete the tasks effectively by relying on the provided
materials. Thus, this is an opportunity for students to self-study, self-assess their performance, and develop active learning strategies.
Evidence 2: In Unit 5 (Natural wonders of Viet Nam), English 6 – Global Success, page 55, in the Skills 2 – Listening section, students
listen to a short talk about Phu Quoc Island and complete comprehension tasks such as answering questions and identifying true/false statements.
Afterward, they are encouraged to use the notes in the Writing section to produce a short paragraph about a place they know. These activities
combine listening, self-checking, and independent production, which help learners consolidate knowledge and extend their learning beyond the
classroom. Hence, this not only supports innovative teaching and assessment methods but also enables learners to self-study, self-assess their
17
understanding, and cultivate active learning strategies.
Discussion:
Argument 1.1: The accompanying learning materials in Global Success 6 support innovative teaching methods by shifting the focus from
grammar to skill development. For example, the audio tracks in sections such as Getting Started, Pronunciation, Listening, and Communication
and Culture provide students with opportunities to practice listening, speaking, and pronunciation in real contexts. The workbook further promotes
extended learning and practice, while the teacher’s guide helps organize communicative and teamwork activities. These resources encourage
learners to express personal opinions, reduce reliance on mechanical exercises, and make lessons more engaging and student-centered.
Argument 1.2: The innovation in teaching methods is closely connected with changes in assessment. In addition to traditional paper-
based tests of grammar, vocabulary, and reading, the new program emphasizes speaking and listening assessment. Accompanying materials such
as workbooks, checklists, and audio files provide tasks and sample tests that teachers can use for formative assessment. These tools allow teachers
to monitor students’ progress, give feedback, and support continuous improvement. In particular, checklists also help students practice self-
assessment, encouraging them to take responsibility for their own learning.
Argument 2: Through the evaluation of the English textbook 6 – Global Success, we found that the book is accompanied by diverse learning
materials that not only support classroom instruction but also promote students’ autonomy in learning. The accompanying materials, such as
audio files, pair-work tasks, and integrated skills exercises, provide learners with opportunities to review lessons at home, check their own
understanding, and practice independently. For secondary school students, this is especially important because class time alone is not sufficient
for them to fully consolidate the knowledge and skills taught. By listening to recordings, completing comprehension exercises, and engaging in
communicative tasks, students are able to monitor their own progress and self-assess their performance. In this way, the book encourages learners
to be proactive, reflective, and self-directed in their learning. Moreover, self-study supported by these materials allows students to take the
initiative, strengthen their ability to apply knowledge in new contexts, and gradually develop effective and active learning strategies. In short, the
18
integration of such learning resources ensures that teaching innovations in methods and assessment are closely linked to fostering students’
independence and active engagement in the learning process.
Final results:
Based on the evidence collected across all 12 units of English 6 – Global Success in relation to criterion 44, we synthesized the findings as
follows. Through the above review, evaluation, and discussion, we would like to draw the following conclusions: English 6 – Global Success
meets criterion 44 in group 5 well.
Specifically, in criterion 44, the accompanying learning materials in the textbook support innovation in teaching and assessment methods.
Moreover, the materials are effective in helping learners to self-study, self-assess, and develop active learning strategies. Therefore, we rate
