Unit – 6 (Geometry and Measures 2)

Metric Measures:

Note:
a) 1 centimetre (cm) = 10 millimetre (mm)
b) 1metre (m) = 100 centimetre (cm)
c) 1 kilometre (km) = 1000 metre (m)
d) 1 kilogram (kg) = 1000 gram (g)
e) 1 litre (l) = 1000 millilitre (ml)

i)Convert from mm to cm (÷ 10) ii) Convert from cm to mm (× 10)

87 mm = 87 ÷ 10 = 8.7cm 19.7 cm =19.7 × 10 = 197 mm
iii) Convert from cm to m (÷ 100) iv) Convert from m to cm (× 100)
18 cm = 18 ÷ 100 = 0.18m 8.1 m = 8.1 × 100 = 810cm
v) Convert from m to km (÷ 1000) vi) Convert from km to m (× 1000)
25 m = 25 ÷ 1000 = 0.025km 18.3 km = 18.3 × 1000 = 18300 m

vii) Convert from g to kg (÷ 1000) viii) Convert from kg to g (× 1000)

15000 g = 15000 ÷ 1000 = 15kg 27 kg = 27 × 1000 = 27000 g

ix) Convert from ml to l (÷ 1000) x) Convert from l to ml (× 1000)

11000 ml = 11000 ÷ 1000 = 11l 54 l = 54 × 1000 = 54000 ml

Time Calculation:

1 hour = = 60 mins
1
Half an hour ( ) = 30 mins
2
1
Quarter of an hour ( ) = 15 mins
4
3 Quarters = 15mins+15mins+15mins = 45 mins
(or)
3
of an hour = half + quarter = 30 mins + 15mins = 45 mins

Quarter of an hour ( ) = 15 mins
Area of Rectangle: 4
3 Quarters = Quarter + Quarter + Quarter =
Area of Rectangle = length ×=width

Units:3 mm2, cm2, m2, km2, etc.,(or)
of an hour = half + quarter = 30 mins + 15mins = 45 mins

Example:
60 mins Perimeter = 8 + 6 + 8 + 6 = 28 cm
1 6 cm
Half an hour ( ) = 30 mins Area = 8 × 6 = 48 cm2

of a circle: = 45 mins
(or)
3
of an hour = half + quarter = 30 mins + 15mins = 45 mins

Note:
• Radius = half of diameter(r = d ÷ 2)
If diameter is 12cm,
then radius = 12 ÷ 2 = 6cm
• Diameter = double of radius ( d = r × 2)
If radius is 4cm,
then diameter = 4 × 2 = 8cm
