Environmental Literacy Project Proposal Project Title:
“Brick by Brick: Building a Greener Tomorrow”
I. Project Background and Problem Statement:
In our school and community, plastic waste has become a serious problem. Many students still
throw away single-use plastics such as sachets, cups, and wrappers after using them. These
plastics do not easily decompose and often block canals, causing floods and pollution. This not
only harms the environment but also affects the cleanliness and health of everyone in school.
Our group believes that even small actions can make a big difference. That’s why we decided to
create eco-bricks—plastic bottles filled tightly with clean and dry plastics. These eco-bricks can
be used to build useful things like chairs, plant boxes, and benches. Through this project, we want
to lessen plastic waste, promote recycling, and inspire others to live sustainably.
II. Project Objectives:
By the end of this project, the students aim to:
1. Reduce the amount of plastic waste in the campus by at least 40% within two months.
2. Produce at least 100 eco-bricks made from collected plastic waste.
3. Encourage students to practice waste segregation and recycling in their daily habits.
4. Promote environmental awareness through the “Brick by Brick” campaign and exhibits.
III. Scope and Focus Area:
Target Participants: All students, teachers, school staff, and canteen vendors.
Focus Area: Solid Waste Management (Plastic Waste Reduction and Recycling)
IV. Methodology / Plan of Action:
Step 1: Conduct an observation and short survey to know how much plastic waste is produced in
school (Week 1).
Step 2: Orient students and teachers about the eco-brick project and how to properly make eco-
bricks (Week 2).
Step 3: Collect used plastic bottles and dry plastics from classrooms and canteen areas (Weeks
3–4).
Step 4: Create eco-bricks by stuffing plastics into bottles until firm and solid (Weeks 5–6).
Step 5: Use the eco-bricks to make simple school projects like plant boxes or chairs, then launch
a small exhibit (Week 7).
Step 6: Evaluate the results and present findings through a short campaign event (Week 8).
V. Expected Outcomes:
Plastic waste in school will be reduced noticeably.
Students and staff will develop discipline in recycling and waste segregation.
At least 100 eco-bricks will be completed and used in school projects.
The project will inspire more eco-friendly actions and awareness in the school community.
VI. Resources Needed:
Materials: Used plastic bottles, dry plastic wrappers, sticks for stuffing, gloves, posters,
tarpaulins, boxes for collection.
Budget: ₱300–₱500 (for posters, campaign materials, and small prizes).
Manpower: Student volunteers, teacher coordinators, and janitors for waste collection.
