Introduction
• • V-MOSFET stands for Vertical Metal Oxide
Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor.
• • It is a power MOSFET designed for high
current and voltage.
• • Current flows vertically from drain to source.
• • Used for fast switching and efficient power
control.
DIAGRAM
Working Principle
• • When positive gate voltage is applied,
electrons form a conductive channel.
• • Current flows vertically from drain to source.
• • When gate voltage is zero, channel
disappears (OFF state).
• • Acts as a voltage-controlled switch.
Characteristics of V-MOSFET
• • High input impedance (megaohms range).
• • Faster switching than BJTs.
• • Low ON-resistance.
• • High temperature stability.
• • Drain current rises with gate voltage.
Types of V-MOSFET
• 1. N-Channel V-MOSFET – faster, electron
conduction.
• 2. P-Channel V-MOSFET – slower, hole
conduction.
Lateral vs Vertical MOSFET

to drain (used for high-
power applications).
Advantages of V-MOSFET
• • Very high input impedance.
• • Fast switching capability.
• • Compact and efficient structure.
• • Handles high current and voltage.
• • Low power loss during operation.
Disadvantages of V-MOSFET
• • Complex and expensive fabrication.
• • Limited voltage rating vs. IGBT.
• • Thin gate oxide may get damaged by static
charge.
• • High output capacitance affects efficiency.
• • Thermal management is challenging under
heavy load.
Applications of V-MOSFET
• • Power amplifiers and switching power
supplies.
• • DC–DC converters and motor drivers.
• • Audio amplifiers and RF communication.
• • Used in CMOS ICs and signal processing.
Conclusion
• • V-MOSFET offers high efficiency and fast
switching.
• • Vertical design supports high current
handling.
• • Essential in modern power electronics.
• • Used widely in communication and control
systems.
