COMPUTING DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Closing the Gap
School X is a recently established British school catering to international and local students. Since opening two and a half years ago it has
experienced rapid growth from 45 students to over 250. The school is now 2 form entry from nursery to year 4 and is developing the high school
with current classes running to year 8. With students from over 30 nationalities the current number of students for whom English is an
additional language is over 85%.
As the school is growing and developing its curriculum it has come to light that there is lack of technology at the school and the students
computing skills and not in line with the recent changes to the British national curriculum. The idea behind this leadership challenge is to look at
improving the provision of technology enhanced learning as a platform for providing further support to EAL students. The school has recently
employed an e-learning coordinator to develop an online leaning platform
Objectives of the Leadership Challenge
The challenge is to implement technology enhanced learning into the school as a platform to support learning,
New technologies will not only allow students to achieve the objectives laid out in the new computing national curriculum but also allow
teachers to develop tailored interventions for target groups particularly EAL. In line with the mission statement to provide “Engaging and
effective teaching based on our core values and the best, most up-to date UK educational practice.” We want to ensure children have access to
relevant technologies and that teachers are equip with the knowledge of how to teach the skills necessary to achieve year group objectives.
During the challenge many different groups will be involved and consulted. Close links will be made with other King’s School and in particular
the Head of ELearning, the eLearning coordinator, and the IT technicians. The implementation of hardware, software programs and development
in the curriculum will be many changes for teaching staff. During this challenge it is paramount to deliver effective staff training, drawing on
the experience of current teachers and the expertise of other King’s group members. By leading this challenge I hope to achieve better outcomes
for students allowing them access to skills lesson to learn how to use new technologies and moving to using technology as a platform to learn
across all subjects.
Developing leadership
In order to implement this challenge I will need to use several leadership strategies to ensure the whole team is working together. Coordinating
and coaching will be fundamental to the project. Coaching the eLearning coordinator to develop his skills and technical knowledge to develop a

online learning platform will be a fundamental role. As the eLearning coordinator is new to the school and new to the role developing his skills
and knowledge of the policies and procedures is vital. Empowering him to develop his eLearning role in line with the rest of the Kings group
school and supporting him in ensuring the computing curriculum . Coordinating with the head office, technicians and project team will be
essential to ensure the budget, technological requirements and teaching team are coordinating. Developing the skills of the teaching team by
delivering high quality training developing their own skills in the use of new technologies will be key in ensuring they feel confident in using the
technologies in the classroom. Some staff members have experience and ideas in using some technologies so facilitating the sharing of good
practice will be of benefit to all. Ensuring the school makes strong links with the head of department in Spain will allow us to utilise the benefits
of expertise available within the group.
