Using Windchill
To search a CAD-file in Windchill & retrieve CAD-file (.dwg):
1. Open an internet browser (Microsoft Edge or Chrome)
2. Navigate to the Windchill URL: [Link]
*Tip: Bookmark/save the Windchill URL link to your favorites.
* To log in to Windchill URL: use computer log in/password.
Once your in Windchill Type in the drawing number into the search bar in the top right corner of
Windchill and click on the icon
The ‘Search results’ screen will open with your search results.
1. In the ‘Search results’ screen above, click either the part# in the “Numbers” Column or the
icon for the designated drawing document to view
I clicked the icon and was sent to the next step ‘Details’ tab
1. If the circled image shows a pair of rollers, please click on the image once.
2. After clicking on the pair of rollers, a pop-up screen will notify you “Set to Publisher” and show a
link to the “WVS Job Monitor.” You can close this pop-up window.
3. Click on the ‘Content’ Tab
4. Click on the WVS Job Monitor (a black square with green squiggle icon)
The WVS Job Monitor will show the Job Status of the selected Drawing going through these phases:
Ready → Executing → ‘Complete’
1. You will need to use the ‘Refresh’ button or turn on Auto Refresh On to see the latest update.
2. After you refresh click the Close button.
Go back to the Content Tab
1. Click on the Refresh icon under “Representations/Annotations” at the bottom of the
‘Content’ tab screen
Once an image has been successfully created, a PDF Thumbnail appears as shown below:
1. Right click on the PDF Thumbnail (the image in the red circle) and select “Save Representation.”
A pop-up window will appear, select the following:
1. Select “Sale as File”2.
2. Select “.zip” format
3. Click “OK”
A .zip file will begin downloading.
Windchill can now be lowered out of the way.
1. Navigate to Windows File Explorer on your desktop → Click on Downloads folder
Right click on default (any number).zip to open the .zip file you downloaded today with the most recent
timestamp.
Once the zip file is opened drag the .DWG to any file folder on your desktop. The folder I use is
Now the file is located on our desktop. We can go to Esprit tools within MIS and select get drawing.
Select Load Drawing (we are by passing Drawing Search).
The Load Drawing search for files window opens. Go to the Desktop location in Quick Access or My
Computer on the left side and double click to open.
After the Desktop location is open select the folder designated for .DWG files. And double click to open.
Double click the Drawing number and it will load into Esprit.
You should now be able to use this .dwg file the same way you would have used any other .dwg file
previously as an overlay.
REVIEW STEPS (PLEASE COMPLETE until further notice):
1. Review the image generated in Windchill. If the thumbnail view is missing the boarder (as in
the example below), send an e-mail to the following personnel: (inewell@[Link] and
fsdengadminnao@[Link] )

2. Review the image in FSG Imaging. If the image is ‘locked’ (shows this icon: in imager) or
isn’t viewable, send e-mail to following personnel: (inewell@[Link]
fsdengadminnao@[Link] and EBendrey@[Link] , LTriezenberg@[Link])
