Theme: Exploring an Environmental Issue through Storytelling, Data, and
Personal Connection
I. Project Overview
Students will create a short podcast episode (3–7 minutes) that explores an environmental
issue using a mix of storytelling, factual data, and personal experiences or interviews. The
goal is to educate and inspire listeners to understand the issue and consider ways to take
action.
II. Project Objectives
Research and explain a current environmental issue.
Communicate factual information clearly using data and evidence.
Incorporate narrative and personal storytelling techniques.
Produce and edit a short podcast using basic audio tools.
Reflect on their learning and the impact of their message.
III. Project Components
1. 1. Topic Selection: Choose one environmental issue that interests you (local or global).
Examples: air pollution, deforestation, waste management, coral reef damage,
renewable energy, etc.
2. 2. Research & Data Collection: Gather credible information from reliable sources
(articles, reports, documentaries). Identify key statistics, causes, effects, and possible
solutions.
3. 3. Storytelling Development: Find or create a personal or community story related to
your issue.
4. 4. Podcast Script Writing: Plan and write a clear, engaging script that includes an
introduction, story, data, reflection, and call to action.
5. 5. Recording & Editing: Record your podcast using a smartphone, laptop, or software
like Audacity, GarageBand, or Anchor. Edit for clarity and sound quality.
6. 6. Podcast Presentation: Share your podcast with the class or online platform and
summarize what you learned.
7. 7. Reflection: Write or record a short reflection (1–2 minutes or 1 page) about what you
learned, how storytelling helped, and your message for listeners.

VI. Procedure: How to Make a Podcast
8. Step 1: Choose Your Environmental Topic
Select one environmental issue you care about or find interesting. Make sure it’s specific
enough to explore in a short podcast.
9. Step 2: Research and Collect Information
Find reliable sources such as scientific journals, news articles, and NGO reports. Gather key
data and local examples.
10. Step 3: Develop Your Story Angle
Decide how you will tell your story: personal experience, interview, or local event. Identify
the message or call to action.
11. Step 4: Write Your Script
Organize your podcast: Introduction, Story, Data & Explanation, Reflection, and
Conclusion/Call to Action.
12. Step 5: Record Your Podcast
Find a quiet room, test your microphone, and record with clear, expressive voice. Do
multiple takes if needed.
13. Step 6: Edit Your Podcast
Use editing software to cut mistakes, balance sound, and add music if desired. Keep it 3–7
minutes long.
14. Step 7: Add Details and Credits
Create a title, write a short description, and credit sources, interviewees, and music.
15. Step 8: Share and Reflect
Present your podcast and write a short reflection about what you learned and how your
story can inspire awareness.
