🎭 LITTLE MERMAID– Performance Script 🎭

SCENE 1: UNDER THE SEA

BACKGROUND MUSIC: FATHOM BELOW (Opening bg. music)

SOUND EFFECTS: BUBBLING WATER, DISTANT THUNDER

(Ariel swims through wreckage)

FLOUNDER: Ariel, wait! I have a bad feeling about this!

ARIEL: (holding a fork) Look, Flounder! It’s a DINGLEHOPPER!

SEBASTIAN: Ariel! The concert! Your father will be furious! We must

go!

ARIEL: Okay! I’m coming!

(They swim off. Lights change. Music fades.)

SEBASTIAN: Oh no… we missed it!

ARIEL: Maybe next time?

(Sebastian sighs and shakes his head. Curtain closes.)

 SCENE 2: ARIEL’S SECRET GROTTO
ARIEL: Here it is… my secret grotto!

FLOUNDER: Wooah… antiques!

ARIEL: yes, it is (singing softly)

I wanna be where the people are
I wanna see, wanna see ‘em dancin’
Walking around on those, what you call ‘em? Ohh… feet.

TRITON: Ariel! I should have known! Sebastian—destroy it all!

ARIEL: No please! Stop! (sobs)

(Curtain closes)

(Storm rages. Ariel swims to the surface. Boat crashes.)

SAILOR: Prince Eric! Jump now!!!

(Ariel saves Eric. Reaches surface.)

SCUTTLE: Is he alive?

(Ariel listens to his breathing.)

ARIEL: He’s alive… and handsome.

(Ariel sings softly.)

What would i give to live where you are?
What would I pay to stay here beside you?
What would I do to see you smiling at me?
Where do they walk? Where do they run?
If we could stay all day in the sun,
Just you and me… and I could be part of your world.

MAIDS AND SAILORS: (shouting from a distance) Prince eric!! Prince eric!!!

ARIEL: I’ll come back… I promise.

(Ariel and Flounder quickly swim back into the ocean. Curtain closes)

SCENE 3: URSULA’S LAIR

(Ariel sits on a rock, gazing at the ocean. Flotsam and Jetsam glide toward her.)

FLOTSAM: Ohhhh what’s wrong, princess?

ARIEL: I just…want to be human.

JETSAM: Is this about that handsome prince?

ARIEL: (looks away) Maybe.

FLOTSAM: We know someone who can help. Come with us. (sinister smile)

(Ursula smirks and sings “Poor Unfortunate Souls” as Ariel follows the eels toward
her lair.)

URSULA: I fortunately know a little magic

It’s a talent that I always have possessed
And dear lady, please don’t laugh
I use it on behalf of the miserable, lonely, and depressed pathetic. Ohh unfortunate
souls

URSULA: Well, well… the little mermaid. I’ve been expecting you.

ARIEL: You know me?

URSULA: Of course, dear. And I know what you want. I can make you human—but
I’ll need your voice in exchange.

ARIEL: Mm-My voice? (trembling)

URSULA: You’ve got your looks! Your pretty face. So, what’ll it be?

(Ariel hesitates, then nods. Ursula laughs as magic fills the lair. Ariel’s voice is
trapped in a seashell, and her tail transforms into legs.)

(“Poor Unfortunate Souls” end part plays as background music. Curtain closes.)
 SCENE 4: THE RESCUE (ACT 1)

(Morning lights. Eric and Grimsby on shore.)

GRIMSBY: Really Eric? Pining for that girl with the voice won't bring her back.

ERIC: (seeing Ariel on sand) Whooaa! A girl! Are you alright? Let me help you.

ARIEL: (Ariel tries to walk but falls down.)

ERIC: Grimsby, let's take her to the palace.

(Ariel cannot speak. Eric carries her to the castle.)

SCENE 5: CASTLE MONTAGE

(Later, at the castle. She struggles to walk on her new legs and stumbles, but Eric
quickly catches her. Their eyes meet. He smiles kindly.)

ERIC: easy there… you're safe now.

(Soft instrumental music begins to play — hints of “Part of Your World.”)

(Ariel nods shyly, grateful. She looks around the castle in awe while Eric watches,
amused by her curiosity. A light, playful energy grows between them as she tries to
adjust to the human world.)

(Musical montage: dining room, ballroom, carriage ride. Eric and Ariel grow
closer.)
SEBASTIAN: See? They are getting along! (soft smile)
(Curtain closes.)

SCENE 6: THE LAGOON

SEBASTIAN: (singing “kiss the girl”) "Sha la la la la la... ain't gonna kiss the girl..."

(Eric tries to guess her name. Ariel keeps shaking her head every time he gets it wrong.

ERIC: You know I really feel bad not knowing your name, maybe I could guess. Ahmm.
Sofia? Ahmm mildred? How about Rachel?

SEBASTIAN: (Whispering) Ariel. Ariel is her name.

ERIC: Huh? Ariel??

ARIEL: (nods happily)

ERIC: Your name is Areil? What a beautiful name. Okay, Ariel.

(Ariel blushes, feeling a flutter of kilig as their eyes meet.)

(Just as they lean to kiss - CRASH! - eels ruin the moment.)

(Curtain closes.)

SCENE 7: MISTAKEN IDENTITY

(Scene: The castle courtyard. Eric walks by the garden, still searching for the girl who
saved him. Vanessa appears at the steps, her voice echoing softly.)

VANESSA: Oh Eric! I’ve been looking for you! (hugs eric)

ERIC: (shocked) Who are you? Your voice.. It sounds familiar.

VANESSA: I’m the one who saved you.

ERIC: I knew it! I knew I’d recognize that voice. (hugs vanessa)

(Ariel watches from a distance, heartbroken)

VANESSA: (smiles sweetly, pretending) (whispers to herself, smirking) Poor little

princess…
(Curtain closes.)

SCENE 8: WEDDING AND FINALE

PART 1: THE ENCHANTED WEDDING

(Ship deck, wedding decorations. VEILED WOMAN (Ursula) holds Eric's arm)

GRIMSBY: (emotional) Prince Eric! You’ve found your princess!

ERIC: (vacant-eyed) Yes.. My beautiful princess …

VANESSA: (Sweet but menacing) Soon, my prince... we shall be together forever.

Just you... and me…

(vanessa and eric hugged each other)

(Ariel watches heartbroken. Sebastian and Flounder arrive.)

SEBASTIAN: We're too late! He is completely under her spell!

PART 2: THE TRUTH REVEALED

(The wedding begins. Ariel watches from the shore. Suddenly, Scuttle swoops down
and attacks Vanessa.)

SCUTTLE: ATTACK! That's no princess - it's the sea witch!

VANESSA: Shoo! You filthy flying rats!

(Vanessa pushes them away, smirking — confident she won.)

SCUTTLE: She’s not the one who saved Eric — Ariel is!

VANESSA: Then prove it!

(Scuttle dives at Vanessa’s necklace, breaking [Link] gasps. Ariel slowly steps
forward. Magic swirls as Ariel’s voice returns.)

VANESSA: NOOOOO!!!

ARIEL: I saved you, Eric. I traded my voice for feet to be part of your world.

ERIC: You're a mermaid?

ARIEL: Yes. eric.

VANESSA: YOU... RUINED... EVERYTHING! MY PERFECT PLAN! NOW I'LL

TAKE WHAT'S MINE BY FORCE! (evil laugh)
(everyone will panic)

(The sea rumbles. King Triton appears.)

KING TRITON: I won't let you hurt my daughter Ursula! Go back where you
belong!

VANESSA: NOOOOO!!!!! AHHHHH!!!

(King Triton raises his trident, and Ursula is pulled back into the dark depths of the
sea.)
(Ursula disappears. Curtain closes.)
 SCENE 9: Follow Your Heart.

(scene calm part, soft music)

ERICERIC: It was you… all along! You saved me! (Eric hugs Ariel.)

TRITON: You've shown me that love is stronger than any rule. I’ll let you follow
your heart, my daughter.

ARIEL: (Rush toward king triton and hugged him) Thank you, Dad… for letting
me be in the world I’ve always dreamed of.

(Ariel smiles at her father and goes back to Eric.)

ERIC: My heart was searching for you.

ARIEL: And I’ve always been here.. My prince.

(Eric will kiss Ariel’s forehead)
