ANNUAL FUNCTION SCRIPT (RTI)

SCENE 1:

Introduction:-
(lights on with all characters in the queue)

Narrator- In the jungle of papers, man has lost his way.

Under piles of files, the truth is buried.
In the maze of documents, truth lies unseen,
Between red tape, lost are our dreams.
This… is the chakravyuh, the vicious circle—
Where every citizen runs, but reaches nowhere.

Ramu Kaka (Aayansh):- I have been running from pillar to post to get my pension assured, for
almost 3 months nothing has come out of it.

Sita Devi (Srishti):- Sir, you’ve just been waiting for your pension! Look at me! I’m struggling hard
to prove my identity and existence to arrange two square meals after my husband passed away.
These officials make me feel that I’ve lost my right to live.

Farida Begum (Tanisha):- And look at this mound of garbage. I have been frequenting these
offices to get these removed. Now, I will have to fight for the removal of garbage from their
office desk as well!

SCENE 2:

Sharma babu (Bhavya):- Your file has moved to the concerned officers. Wait, if you grease my
hands, I’ll get the orders quickly for you!

Ramu kaka: I was a teacher! And, you’re asking me for a bribe!!! I’ll never do such a thing! I’ll
never pay you this! *murmers to himself* I’d been teaching for 30 years and now I’ve to teach
these officers to find a file! Look at what respect they have for a teacher!

Gupta Ji (Krishang):- Please calm down sir! There’s a way out! Fill up your form again and
submit here with proper documents and three photographs attached. I assure you, your work
will be done!

Ramu Kaka:- I’ve already submitted these papers more than once! How many more times d’you
want me to do the same thing?
Gupta Ji:- This is a thumb rule of the government office. Do I have to teach you this at your age.
I neither fancy your photographs nor your documents. Do this and spare me for other works!

Sita Devi:- Wasting your time! What non-sense!? Every time we visit your office, you tell us to fill
up the form. This has been going on for the last 4 years! How long will this continue!?

Farida Begum:- Ya Allah! Don't we have anything else to do other than standing in lines and
filling forms?

Ramu kaka:- Leave it! There’s no use! Let us all go from here

Geeta (Rinkle):- Ram, my back is broken and my wallet’s empty!

Ram (Aaryansh):- I still haven’t received last week’s wages yet! How am I supposed to pay off my
daughter’s school fee?

Chorus: The minimum wage is Rs. 400 now, but the contractor is only paying Rs. 250. How long
will this theft go on?

Geeta:- The electricity bill is so high. 7000 just for two bulbs and a fan, is this a joke??

Ram-: And what about that well? What about that scheme, that promise. I still have to walk 2
kilometers everyday just to fetch water.

(Thekedar enters )

Thekedar : Here! Take your money and get lost.

Ram: This is so outrageous! Its Egregious! The Government has set up a higher rate`

Contractor (moves closer):

Chorus: We are trapped! We work so hard but we get nothing. No one hears us out.

Narrator-

Running in circles, with hope in their hand,

They seek justice in a broken land.
Bribe or request—the choice is tough,
In this web of systems, truth has it rough.
Papers filed, with hearts full of cheer,
Answers exist—justice drawing near.
Questions echo in the halls of power,
Silence responds—by far, solutions unclear.

SCENE 4

Ram: Alright, Geeta! Let’s go and ask the clerk about our bill, wages and about the well as well
as.

Clerk:- What is the matter with you both? Why are you wasting my time?

Geeta:- Sir, our electricity bill has risen to Rs. 7000. You must disclose the actual reading and
rate to us!

Ram:- And, what about the new well?

Clerk:- Electricity? That’s not my department! There are no records of the new well either, Leave
me alone, Get lost!

Ram: What about our muster roll, and the real wages.

Clerk:- You people don’t have any verified ID and Your name doesn’t appear on any records! I
have better work to do. We’ll see next year!

Sangeeta Didi (Anushka):- *To Ram and Geeta* Wait! *to the clerk* Hold on, sir! What kind of
behaviour is this? All we are expecting is for you to do your duty.

*Clerk shoos them away and leaves.*

SCENE 5:-

Sangeeta:- They clearly lied, and they will continue to do so if you don’t start asking them the
right questions! And now with the RTI Act of 2005 we have the power and the means of
questioning them.

Geeta- But these govt. officials do not listen to us.

Sangeeta- They’ll listen when the law speaks! We’ll file an RTI and uncover the truth.

for All of us we’ll get the muster roll and payment records and for the water well we’ll get the
sanction letter and the work completion certificate.

Ram:- The paperwork will expose them!

Geeta:- Alright! Let’s go!

Narrator-

RTI is our right; it will strike corruption with might.

Demanding justice in this broken land,
Truth will be revealed, like the morning sun.
Empowering people, the RTI will rise—
With the flow of information, we will be wise.
Nourishing democracy, side by side,
“Satyamev Jayate” is the motive—truth is our guide.

SCENE 5-

Arjun- Namaste! Why are you people so crestfallen?

Ramu Kaka- Son, the three of us are trapped in a vicious circle, no one listens or bothers to
help…

Sita Devi- We have been following up our pleas for months! Everyone turns us away.

Arjun:- Don’t just ask questions, write them down and file an RTI, you have the right to question
the government. Ask them where you files are, which officer to go to and question the delay.

Farida Begum- Will they even answer us? Or just trash our queries!

Arjun- They will be bound by law to answer us. If they fail to do so in 30 days, they will face
serious consequences

Ramu Kaka- You mean I can question the government itself?

Arjun- Yes Kaka, you all have the right. All you need To file an RTI is 10 rupees and a paper with
your question on it.

Sita Devi- All this time, I was desperate for help, I didn’t know the answer was so easy to get!

Farida- Well then, let’s go and find out why our rights are being denied.

NARRATION-

And so a spark of knowledge lights the maze

The same paper that trapped them now become weapons of truth

Because when the people began to ask power must begin to answer

DANCE
SCENE-6:

Sharma Babu: Oh no! Gupta ji, the RTI has arrived. Now we’ll have to give a written answer.

Gupta ji (nervously): Oh God, we’re in trouble now! This won’t be easy.

(The contractor and clerk too start talking nervously.)

Thekedaar: Sarkari Babu! Our secret is out! The laborers have complained through the RTI.

Sarkari Babu: Then we’ll have to show the entire account book now!

Ram (enters with Geeta, holding the RTI reply envelope): Here’s the reply, Thekedaar Sahab!
The govt. itself has given the written response!

Geeta (steps forward): Here is the proof. The payment voucher says ₹400 per day, but you gave
us only ₹250! And look here—my name is clearly written in the roll! Now pay the remaining
amount, and that too immediately!

Ram: And what about the electricity bill? The reading shows ₹700, not ₹7000! Cancel that at
once!

Sangeeta Didi: And the well? The well that was supposed to be ready three months ago—where
is it? We demand an answer right now!

Sarkari Babu (to Thekedaar): You said nobody will ever see these papers! Now I’ll lose my job!

Thekedaar: Fine! Take your money—but don’t make a scene again!(to laborers)

Ram and Geeta: The RTI is our right. This is proof, this is truth, and we know its power!

Narrator-

Their case has been solved

But what happened to farida begum ramu kaka and sita devi

Ramu Kaka: My pension has finally been sanctioned!

Sita Devi: I’ve got my ration card!

Farida Begum: The garbage has been cleared! Look how clean these streets are now!
Arjun: See! This is your right. Information is power. RTI gives every citizen the strength to
demand transparency.

Narrator:
Breaking chains isn’t hard—
You just have to raise your voice!
No bribes, no politics—only the matter of rights.
Through RTI, change your condition and our nation’s situation!
