Product model Product code Fuji Electric model
NCR-XAB4A 253-7860 ACL-40B
NCR-XAB5A 253-7870 ACL-74B
The NCR-XAB4A and NCR-XAB5A are used to absorb noise generated by the VC series main unit (hereinafter the VC
device) or VC series main unit (hereinafter the VC device) and reduce the effect of noise on the device and peripheral
equipment. Note that the effectiveness of these options greatly depends on how cables are routed and how the device is
connected to earth ground.
NCR-XAB4A NCR-XAB5A
The NCR-XAB4A and NCR-XAB5A are zero-phase reactors made by Fuji Electric. For the dimensions, characteristics,
and other details, refer to the catalog data from Fuji Electric.
For information about installation, refer to the installation method and example below.
Install the zero-phase reactor near the VC/VC device using screws, and wind power cables (U, V, and W phases) around
the reactor three to five times. (If the motor capacity is large, the power cable diameter becomes thick. In that case, you
may place three or so zero-phase reactors in a row and have motor power cables (U, V, and W phases) penetrate the
reactors.)
If you wind a motor earth wire (E) together, noise cannot be reduced. The wire should be wound separately.
For information about the type and number of zero-phase reactors to be used, refer to [Table 3-1 Relationship between
power cable size AWG (mm2) and zero-phase reactor].

NCR-XAB5A 3 to 5 turns
(ACL-74B) 74.0 mm 1 reactor
Table 3-1 Relationship between power cable size AWG (mm2) and zero-phase reactor is based on the AWG size
2
(mm ) of the MLFC power cable (600V/110 ) and the inner diameter of the zero-phase reactor.
The information given in this table is for reference purposes, as the diameter and hardness differ for each power cable.
The number of times that the power cable is wound is assumed to be three to five turns.
2
For information about the power cable size AWG (mm ) of the motor, refer to the section of this chapter pertaining to the
power cable and the instruction manual of the model in use.
* The zero-phase reactor generates heat during operation. The power cable wound around the zero-phase reactor should
withstand temperatures of 110 and higher.
Do not leave any flammable or heat-sensitive object or material around the zero-phase reactor.

Manual
The choke coil NCR-XAC2A is used to absorb noise generated by the VC/VC device and reduce the effect of noise on
the device and peripheral equipment. This product is available in units of one coil, and three choke coils are necessary for
each device.
The rated current is 5.7Arms. Use the choke coil within the effective current range of 5.7Arms and lower.

The purpose of installing this reactor is to prevent the motor from breaking down due to a surge voltage greater
than the motor's withstand voltage when the motor is driven by a device designed to operate at 400VAC.
The reactor is necessary particularly when the power cable between the device and the motor is longer than 10
meters and the motor causes regeneration repeatedly and frequently (as in such cases where objects are brought
up and down by an elevator or in a multi-level warehouse).
Installing the reactor also helps reduce noise generated by the motor power cable.

4 3 I/O terminal block unit
The I/O terminal block unit is used to convert an input/output connector into a terminal block.
Connecting the unit to an applicable device requires a dedicated cable.
Two types of terminal block unit are available: screw type and cage clamp type (space saving type).
Refer to the following pages for the signal tables applicable when each dedicated cable is connected to the terminal block.

Manual
Insert the screwdriver into the operation hole and push the spring open.
As shown above, insert the tip of the screwdriver at an angle and then thrust in the screwdriver. This way, the spring
will open smoothly.
Insert the cable slowly into the connection hole until it does not go in any further.
When using a thin cable, take care not to push the cable in too much further, resulting in its sheath getting caught in
the spring.
Pull out the screwdriver, and the spring will clamp the cable.
4-6
Manual
Push the screwdriver until the lever comes into contact with the housing. The lever may break unless the tip of the
screwdriver is put against the center of the lever.
Try to push the center of the lever, not the edge.
Stop pushing the screwdriver when the lever comes into contact with the housing.
Applying excessive pressure may break the lever.
Push the cable all the way in, and then stop pushing while holding the cable in place.

6 2 Dynamic brake unit
The dynamic brake is a brake function that stops the motor operation by having the rotational energy of the operating motor
consumed by resistance. It can stop the motor in case of a power outage or other abnormal situation in which the motor
driver unit experiences a torque-free condition (motor power supply (U, V, and W) is released).
For a device that may cause an accident if the motor operates through inertia, it is recommended to add this dynamic brake
unit.
To use this unit, connect it between the motor (SM motor) and the device main unit.
* For the VC device, the dynamic brake unit is an accessory (when the model comes with a dynamic brake unit) and is not
treated as an option.
