Weekly Journal Reflection
(To be filled in by the student weekly)
Date: February 3-7
Tasks Completed:
This week continued with my usual routine of arriving 15 minutes before
class to set up and ensure everything was ready. However, it was different
from previous weeks since it was the third quarter examination period. Most
of the week was dedicated to reviewing lessons, facilitating review sessions,
distributing summative exams, and administering the major examination.
Skills Applied:
I applied several key skills, including effective classroom preparation, exam
facilitation, and guiding students during review sessions. Clear
communication and patience were essential in helping students recall
concepts and prepare for their exams. Time management also played a
critical role in ensuring that review activities were productive within the
limited schedule.
New Skills Learned:
One new insight I gained was the importance of adapting lesson plans for
review sessions, summative assessments, and major examinations. I learned
that these plans require a different structure compared to regular lesson
plans, focusing more on reinforcement, assessment, and immediate feedback
to help students grasp challenging concepts
Challenges Encountered:
A challenge I encountered was seeing some students struggle despite the
review sessions. It was disheartening to find that some needed remediation
due to low scores. However, I recognized this as an opportunity for growth
rather than a setback.
Reflection on Personal Growth:
This experience contributed to my professional development by teaching me
how to be more compassionate and proactive in addressing academic gaps.
It reminded me of the vital role teachers play not only in delivering lessons
but also in supporting students through their learning challenges.
Next Steps/Goals for Improvement:
Next week, my primary goal is to execute remedial activities for students
with low grades. I will design targeted learning interventions to help them
catch up and regain confidence in their academic abilities. With a renewed
sense of purpose, I am eager to support my students in overcoming these
challenges.
